Five-Day Skill Enhancement Workshop on “Innovative Ideas to Patents and Copyrights” at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University

Centre for Scientific Research and Innovation (CSRI) at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib organized five-day Skill Enhancement Workshop on “Innovative Ideas to Patents and Copyrights”, aimed at equipping faculty, research scholars and students with hands-on training and in-depth understanding of key approaches in filing copyrights, trademarks and patents. The workshop witnessed active participation from faculty, research scholars and students from all departments of the University, reflecting a strong interdisciplinary interest in the field of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs). The workshop commenced with a session by Dr. Kamaljit Kaur, Member CSRI, who delivered a talk on the topic “From Ideas to Ownership: Unlocking the Power of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in Academia”, outlining the significance of IPR in Innovation and Research. On the second Day, Dr. Ruchi Singla, Director and CEO of RAS Intellect Solutions Private limited, Mohali, led the session on “IPR Filing and Protection”, offering comprehensive training on procedural steps involved in patent filing and safeguarding IP. The third day featured introductory session on “Introduction to Copyrights” by Dr. Pankajpreet Singh, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Physiotherapy followed by a detailed informative session on “Copyright Registration Process: Protecting Your Creative Work, Step-by-Step” by Dr. Supreet Bindra, Assistant Professor, Department of Physiotherapy. The fourth day featured an insightful session on “Commercialization of IP from Academic Institutions” by Prof. Balwinder Singh Sooch, Professor of Biotechnology Department, Punjabi University, Patiala, which emphasized on how IP generated within the academic institutions can be effectively commercialized. The final day of the workshop was addressed by Dr. Sharmistha Chatterjee, representative from RAS Intellect Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Mohali, who gave expert talk on “Trademarks and copyrights protection” highlighting the crucial need to safeguard the creative works and economic interests of the creators. The interactive lectures, combined with strategical approach used by the resource persons, provided participants with valuable insights into IP filing and protection. 
In the valedictory session, the Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh addressed the participants and appreciated the initiative taken by Dr. Rupinder Kaur, IPR cell coordinator of the University and all CSRI members in organizing such skill enhancement workshop. He encouraged the faculty, research scholars and students to pursue research with dedication and aim towards filing patents and copyrights. Prof. (Dr.) Tejbir Singh, Chairman, CSRI, delivered the concluding remarks, sharing his insightful thoughts on the role of such workshops in bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application. All CSRI members extended sincere gratitude to the resource persons and participants of the workshop for their enthusiastic involvement and making the event a grand success.
