The Department of Biotechnology at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University organized an educational visit to the ICAR-Directorate of Mushroom Research (ICAR-DMR), located in Kandaghat, Solan. A group of 47 students was accompanied by faculty members Dr. Rupinder Kaur (Head of the Department), Dr. Simran Jot Kaur, Dr. Nancy, Er. Navgeet Kaur, and Kudratdeep Kaur. The visit was aimed at providing students with firsthand knowledge about the latest research and technological advancements in the field of mushroom cultivation. The ICAR-DMR is a premier institute dedicated to mushroom research and is one of its kind in the country, involved in conducting extensive research on edible mushroom species and providing training to cultivators across India. During the visit, Dr. Anuradha Srivastava, Senior Scientist at ICAR-DMR, shared her expertise on the basics of mushroom farming, ongoing research, and technology transfer initiatives at the institute. Students interacted with the scientist and gained practical insights into various aspects of mushroom cultivation, including spawn production, cultivation techniques, pest and disease management, and post-harvest processing. This visit proved to be a valuable learning experience for the students, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. It also inspired many budding biotechnologists to explore the potential of mushroom biotechnology as a promising career.
