In a significant political development, the Congress party has suffered a major setback ahead of the Ludhiana West by-poll as senior leader Sunil Kapoor has joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). This move is expected to provide AAP with a considerable advantage in the upcoming By-polls.
AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann formally inducted him into the party during a Jansabha on Tuesday evening. The event was attended by prominent AAP leaders, including MP Dr. Rajkumar Chabbewal, Punjab party president Aman Arora, and Ludhiana West by-election candidate Sanjeev Arora.
Sunil Kapoor belongs to Ludhiana's prestigious political family and he is a grandson of late Lala Sardari Lal Kapoor - former Punjab cabinet minister and three-time MLA from Ludhiana West. Known as the "Mahatma Gandhi of Punjab," his grandfather played a crucial role in shaping the state's politics.
Sunil Kapoor's wife has formerly served as a councilor in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation. Because of this, his family still maintains deep-rooted connections with the public at the local level. The Kapoor family continues to hold significant influence in Ludhiana's politics. His decision to join the Aam Aadmi Party will substantially benefit AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora during the by-poll scheduled on June 19.
