Manipur Police arrest 11 militants, recover large cache of arms, ammunition

The Manipur Police arrested 11 militants belonging to various banned outfits and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during the past 24 hours, officials said here on Friday.

A police official said four militants were arrested from Imphal East district, five from Imphal West district and one each from Bishnupur and Thoubal districts. The arrested extremists belong to proscribed PREPAK, Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) -- all are Manipur’s valley-based outfits.

The arrested militants were involved in abduction, forcible collection of money from traders, officials, and contractors, and were also issuing threat notices to people.

Two dreaded criminals were arrested following an encounter with the police on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

The accused, identified as Manish Yadav and Sonu Yadav of Katihar district in Bihar, were arrested late Thursday night.

Police said the accused persons reportedly belong to a dreaded gang of chain snatchers active in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha.

After reviewing the CCTV footage, the police identified the accused and initiated efforts to nab them.

Acting on a tip-off about the duo moving on the Cuttack-Puri Bypass road, police rushed to the spot. The cops came across the duo at Sai Temple Square near Tankapani.

In a shocking incident, a young woman migrant labourer from Bihar was kidnapped and raped while searching for food with her brother in the early hours of Thursday near a railway station in Bengaluru.

The incident was reported from the Mahadevapura police station limits.

The locals, who rushed to the spot on hearing the screams of the victim, managed to get hold of one of the rapists and handed him over to the police after thrashing him. The police, after grilling the accused, arrested one more culprit. One of the accused persons was identified as Ashif.

The police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nayay Sanhita Sections 115 (2), 126 (2), 351 (2), 351 (3), 352, 64, 3 (5). The incident took place between 1.20 a.m. and 1.45 a.m.

The Tamil Nadu Cyber Security Department has launched a detailed investigation after two individuals in Coimbatore lost a combined total of Rs 31 lakh in separate cyber fraud incidents.

According to the police, Siva Kumar (40), a resident of Anbu Nagar in Edayarpalayam, was deceived by fraudsters who offered him a fake managerial job in Japan.

The scammers conducted an online interview and even issued a bogus appointment letter. Under the pretext of resolving issues related to visa processing, they extracted Rs 22 lakh from him in multiple instalments.

When Kumar did not receive the promised flight tickets, he filed a complaint with the cybercrime police.

A woman was killed and her daughter injured in an attack by a youth, who was in love with the latter, in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam on Wednesday, police said.

The shocking incident occurred in Swayamkrushi Nagar under the Madhurawada Police Station limits.

Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi told media persons that D. Naveen, 26, attacked the woman and her daughter in their house with a knife.

Lakshmi, 43, died on the spot while her daughter, Nakka Deepika, 20, was injured. She was admitted to a hospital.

In a major breakthrough, police in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam have arrested Firoz Khan, a fugitive terrorist wanted in connection with the Jaipur serial blast conspiracy, officials said.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had announced a Rs 5 lakh reward for information leading to his capture.

The arrest was made on the night of April 1 after intelligence indicated that Firoz Khan had returned home to celebrate Eid. A police team led by ASP Rakesh Khaka apprehended him and immediately informed the NIA.

The Jaipur serial blast conspiracy came to light on March 30, 2022, when Rajasthan Police arrested three terrorists -- Fakir Mohammed, Altamas Khan, and Sarfuddin alias Sefulla -- in Nimbahera. They were caught transporting 12 kg of RDX, allegedly meant for carrying out a series of explosions in Jaipur.

A 25-year-old German woman was allegedly raped by a cab driver on the outskirts of Hyderabad while she was on her way to airport, police said.

The incident occurred on Monday night at Mamidipally under the Pahadishareef Police Station of Rachakonda Police Commissionerate.

The victim complained to the police on Dial 100. Police have reportedly picked up a suspect and are questioning him.

According to police, the German woman was visiting a friend in Hyderabad. They, along with some others, toured the city in a cab during the day. After dropping off other passengers, the cab driver proceeded to the airport to drop off the German woman. However, on the way to the airport, he stopped the vehicle at an isolated place at Mamidipally, allegedly raped her and escaped.

In the aftermath of the mosque blast that took place in the village of Ardha, Beed, on Sunday, March 30, local police have arrested two suspects. Following the incident, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) also arrived at the site and began its investigation.

Late last night, ATS questioned the arrested suspects and initiated parallel inquiries to determine if there is any terrorism angle involved or if the blast was the result of a personal dispute or mischief.

Widely publicised in villages by the District Police Force and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), the campaign has successfully motivated numerous Maoists, including top leaders, to surrender and express their desire to re-join society.
