Judicial probe into Delhi teen's death over contrasting claims in police custody

A judicial inquiry has been initiated following the alleged custodial death of a 19-year-old youth, identified as Ravi Sahni alias Ravi Kaliya, a resident of Samalka, New Delhi.

The incident occurred on Tuesday while he was being transported to a police station after his arrest.

According to a statement released by Delhi Police, the incident began at around 3 p.m. when a motorcycle patrol team observed two individuals on a bike acting suspiciously near the Palam area.

When signalled to stop, the duo allegedly attempted to flee but were apprehended after a brief chase.

The suspects were identified as Vikas alias Majnu (28) and Ravi Sahni alias Ravi Kaliya (19), both residents of Samalka. After a search, the police claim to have recovered a country-made pistol and one live cartridge from Vikas.

Pakistani hackers targeted three Rajasthan government websites and defaced them with anti-India messages.

The Pakistani cybercriminals targeted multiple government websites in Rajasthan, with the latest being the Education Department's official portal.

On Tuesday, Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar took cognisance of the incident and activated the Department's Information Technology wing.

The "compromised" website has since been temporarily shut down while recovery operations are underway.

Cybersecurity agencies have also been notified, and an investigation has been launched to identify the hacking group responsible and assess the extent of any potential data breach.

As of now, no sensitive data leaks have been confirmed, but a comprehensive audit of all departmental systems is ongoing as a precautionary measure.

In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old youth named Sameer was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Seelampur area of North East Delhi.

The incident took place just a few steps away from his grandmother’s house, where he was headed after leaving his home around 8.30 p.m. on Sunday.

According to police sources, Sameer, a resident of the Jogis’ colony in Seelampur, was attacked by unknown bike-borne shooters who fled the scene immediately after firing at him.

The gunshots were heard by the residents who rushed to the spot and took the severely injured youth to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital.

However, doctors at the hospital declared him dead on arrival.

The police on Saturday arrested a man in Bihar's Vaishali district for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl, officials said.

The accused has been identified as Lalbabu Ram (40), a neighbour of the victim.

Confirming the development, Kumari Durga Shakti, State Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Mahua range, said: "We are taking legal action against the accused. An FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and POCSO (kidnapping and rape) acts have been registered at Baligaon police station. The accused was arrested within 24 hours after committing the crime."

"We have investigated the crime scene and our Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team collected the samples. We have also conducted the medical examination of the victim which confirmed sexual assault," SDPO Shakti added.

According to the official, the incident occurred when the victim was on her way to a nearby shop with Rs 10 to buy biscuits.

Tahawwur Rana, the Pakistani-Canadian national accused of involvement in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, has denied any role in the conspiracy during his interrogation by the Mumbai Crime Branch.

According to senior officials, Rana, who is currently in the custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Delhi, was questioned for over eight hours by a team of Mumbai Police officers.

During the interrogation, Rana distanced himself from the attacks that claimed over 166 lives and injured hundreds on November 26, 2008.

Rana reportedly told investigators that he had "no connection whatsoever" with the planning or execution of the attack.

He also claimed that his childhood friend and co-accused, David Coleman Headley, was solely responsible for the reconnaissance and planning aspects.

Three Sri Lankan nationals, including a woman who was abducted for ransom in Bangladesh, were rescued by the police. According to local media reports, the trio had travelled to Bangladesh at the invitation of a friend they had met on social media.

The police have detained three local people, including the person who sent them the invitation, in connection with the abduction, confirmed Bangladeshi Deputy Inspector General of Police (Khulna range) Mohammad Rezaul Haque while speaking to local journalists on Thursday.

The four arrested Bangladeshi Kazi Emdad Hossain, Shahidul Sheikh, Jony Sheikh, and SM Shamsul Alam contacted the families of the Sri Lankan nationals from a local phone number, and demanded ransom, Bangladesh’s newspaper, The Daily Star reported.

Later, the three Sri Lankans were found at the home of Emdad Kazi at South Ambari village in the Upazila, according to Touhidul Arif, Superintendent of Police in Bagerhat district of Bangladesh.

Tension erupted in Salanpur in the West Burdwan district of West Bengal after the body of a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan was found in suspicious circumstances.

The jawan, identified as Sunil Kumar Paswan, was shot dead on Wednesday night.

A resident of Mihijam in neighbouring Jharkhand, Paswan was posted at Bokaro. He owned land at Salanpur, and recently, some construction work started there.

The body of the jawan was recovered late Wednesday night from the land owned by him. The police recovered several liquor bottles and glasses at the spot where the body was found.

Three minors were detained by police for allegedly strangulating a fellow student to death in the hostel of a private residential college in Keonjhar district of Odisha, an official said on Wednesday.

As per reports, the 15-year-old victim, identified as Jaladhara Mahanta, was a resident of Tangarapada village in Champua block of the Keonjhar district.

After passing the Class 10 board examinations, Jaladhara joined the summer coaching course offered by a private residential college in Dhangarpada area under Town Police limits of Keonjhar district around 15 days ago.

Jaladhara was staying in the hostel of the private residential college.

Manipur Police recover 75 stolen vehicles in 5 days

Amid the ethnic violence in Manipur, theft of cars and two-wheelers is one of the major problems and 75 stolen four-wheelers and seven two-wheelers were recovered in five days from different places in the state, officials said on Tuesday.

A police official said that Manipur Police launched a special drive for the recovery of stolen/snatched vehicles and two-wheelers from anti-social elements and attackers, and recovered 75 vehicles and seven two-wheelers in between April 16 and 20 from different places, mostly in valley districts.

The official said that police have been carrying out a special drive against illegal use of tinted films in vehicles.

Since January 1, tinted films have been removed from 3,720 vehicles in different districts.
