Punjab’s farms produce over 14 crore fish seed annually: Minister

Punjab Fisheries Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian on Wednesday said the state has witnessed growth in the Fisheries sector with the implementation of a slew of measures to enhance fish production and aquaculture development.

The state government’s fish seed farms are producing over 14 crore high-quality fish seeds annually, which are being provided to farmers at subsidised rates.

He said 16 government fish seed farms, 11 fish feed mills and seven laboratories are dedicated to the fish farmers and 14.74 crore fish seedlings have been produced up to December 2024, which was 13.90 crore in 2023.

The state has 43,973 acres under fish farming and 181,188 tons of fish production is being obtained from natural waters, private and panchayati ponds.

The Ramanujan Mathematics Club, Department of Mathematics at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib organised a One Day Seminar on “Applications of Mathematics” in celebration of National Mathematics Day. The event aimed to enhance students' and faculty members' understanding of Mathematics and its real-world applications.The event commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs, who, in his inaugural address, emphasized the profound significance of Mathematics across various disciplines. He highlighted the role of such lectures in fostering academic excellence and intellectual curiosity.
The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. V.K. Kukreja, Professor of Mathematics at S.L.I.E.T, Longowal. Dr. Kukreja delivered an engaging and thought-provoking lecture, shedding light on the vast applications of Mathematics in different fields. His lecture covered diverse topics, including mathematical modeling in engineering, statistical applications in social sciences, and real-world problem-solving using mathematical techniques. His ability to present complex mathematical concepts in an accessible manner captivated the audience and deepened their appreciation of the subject.Following the lecture, an interactive session allowed students and faculty members to engage in discussions with Dr. Kukreja. His insightful responses to their queries further enriched their understanding and stimulated intellectual curiosity. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Richa Brar, Head, Department of Mathematics. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kukreja for his invaluable contribution and acknowledged the enthusiasm of the participants. Dr. Brar reiterated the importance of such academic initiatives in inspiring students and faculty members to explore Mathematics beyond textbooks.

Meet Hayer Corners Center for Ignoring Punjab's Farmers in Budget

During discussion session on Budget, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, AAP's Member of Parliament from Sangrur, cornered the Central Government for completely ignoring Punjab's farmers. Criticizing the neglect of Punjab's farmers and need for crop diversification, he demanded a special package for Sangrur’s agriculture-based industries.

In his address, Meet Hayer said that Punjab led the nation in the Green Revolution, sacrificing its air, water, and soil. Expressing concern over Punjab being completely ignored for crop diversification, Hayer demanded a special package for the state. He said that it is unfortunate that the justified demands of Punjab’s farmers, who have been protesting for over three years for the minimum support price (MSP), have not been acknowledged. He specifically sought a special package for the agriculture-related industries of Sangrur, such as the combine harvester industry of Handiaya.

AAP spokesperson Neel Garg said that Sunil Jakhar should focus on his own problems rather than worrying about Bhagwant Mann. Someone whose own future is uncertain should not be concerned about others.

Neel Garg stated that Sunil Jakhar’s situation is like 'Na Ghar Da, Na Ghat Da'. No one in the BJP is paying attention to him. He is not even invited to party meetings, which is why he has become so restless. Earlier Jakhar had resigned from the position of BJP state president, which was accepted, then he had to beg the BJP leadership to cancel the resignation.

'AAP' Councillor Padamjit Mehta Elected Mayor of Bathinda Municipal Corporation

After securing control over five municipal corporations in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party today elected its mayor in the Bathinda Municipal Corporation as well. AAP councillor Padamjit Mehta has been elected as the Mayor of Bathinda Municipal Corporation.

In the mayoral election, Padamjit Mehta received 33 votes, while the Congress candidate could secure only 15 votes. In the recently held by-election for Ward No. 48 of Bathinda Municipal Corporation, Mehta had won with a margin of approximately 850 votes.

Following the election of the AAP mayor, the party's Punjab President Aman Arora addressed a press conference in Bathinda along with other party leaders. He was joined by Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian, MLA Rajneesh Dahiya, AAP Co-President Amansher Singh Sherry Kalsi, and party leaders Neel Garg and Shaminder Khinda.

Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib, organized an expert talk under the Impact Lecture Scheme initiated by the Ministry of Education Innovation Cell, AICTE. The seminar focused on the topic "Basics of Intellectual Property Rights and Its Importance for Innovators and Entrepreneurs." The keynote speaker for the event was Er. Amardev Singh, Assistant Professor in the Department of Entrepreneurship Development and Industrial Coordination at NITTTR, Chandigarh. He provided in-depth insights into various types of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and their significance. He also encouraged students to develop entrepreneurial skills and strive for self-reliance. The session commenced with an introduction by Dr. Arishu Kaushik, IP Coordinator, BBSBEC IIC, who welcomed the dignitaries, organizing committee, and participants. Dr. Amandeep Singh delivered the welcome address. More than 50 students actively participated in the session, showing great enthusiasm.During the lecture, Er.
