RBI crackdown triggers crash in Kotak Bank shares

Shares of Kotak Mahindra Bank crashed by as much as 12 per cent in morning trade on Thursday to Rs 1,620 on BSE as investors dumped the stock following the RBI crackdown on the lender. The RBI had, on Wednesday evening, barred Kotak Mahindra Bank, with immediate effect, from taking on new customers and issuing fresh credit cards. Infina Finance, one of the promoter group entities of Kotak Mahindra Bank had donated electoral bonds worth Rs 60 crore to the BJP. However, the RBI has taken stringent action against the bank to protect the interest of consumers.

3.24 billion people use Meta apps, Threads reaches 150 million monthly active users

Meta now has 3.24 billion family daily active people (DAP) on average across its family of apps, an increase of 7 per cent year-over-year. Instagram Threads has reached more than 150 million monthly active users -- up from 130 million in February. In an earnings call with analysts, Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that Instagram, reels and video continue to drive engagement, with reels alone now making up 50 per cent of the time that's spent within the app.

Six of family killed as car rams into parked truck in Telangana

Six members of a family were killed and two injured when a car in which they were travelling rammed into a stationary truck on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway in the early hours of Thursday, police said. The accident occurred near Durgapuram stage in Kodada town of Suryapet district of Telangana. Six persons, including a baby, died on the spot. Two others were injured and were shifted to a government hospital at Kodad.

SK hynix returns to profit on robust demand for AI chips in Q1

SK hynix said on Thursday it swung to a profit in the first quarter of this year on the back of rising global demand for premium memory chip products used for artificial intelligence (AI) computing. The world's second-largest memory chipmaker posted an operating profit of 2.88 trillion won ($2.09 billion) for the January-March period, compared with a loss of 3.4 trillion won a year ago, the company said in a regulatory filing. It is the second-highest quarterly operating profit, following the records of the first quarter of 2018.

Elderly man killed as midnight blasts rock Mumbai grocery shop

A 70-year-old male citizen was killed when a major fire broke out in a grocery shop after two gas cylinders burst shortly before midnight of Wednesday-Thursday, the BMC Disaster Control said here. The dual-blasts incident took place around 11.55 p.m. causing a fire in the electrical wiring, installation and grocery articles on the ground floor. The fire then spread to the upper floor residential area at the congested Jai Maharashtra Nagar in Antop Hill, and locals summoned the fire brigade.

IT company Happiest Minds Technologies, on Thursday, said it has acquired Noida-based PureSoftware Technologies for $94.5 million (Rs 779 crore). Through this acquisition, Happiest Minds said that it has strengthened its domain capabilities in banking, financial services, insurance (BFSI) and healthcare and life sciences verticals. PureSoftware, with its 1,200-strong workforce, will augment the capabilities and services offerings to Happiest Minds' product and digital engineering services (PDES) business unit.

IBM acquires cloud software provider HashiCorp for $6.4 billion

IT major IBM has acquired multi-cloud infrastructure automation company HashiCorp for $35 per share in cash, or an enterprise value of $6.4 billion. HashiCorp's capabilities will drive significant synergies across multiple strategic growth areas for IBM, including Red Hat, watsonx, data security, IT automation and Consulting, the company said in a statement. "Enterprise clients are wrestling with an unprecedented expansion in infrastructure and applications across public and private clouds, as well as on-prem environments,” said Arvind Krishna, IBM Chairman and CEO.
