These guys gotta calm down: Trump furious with Israel and Iran for violating ceasefire

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday issued a stern warning to both Israel and Iran, accusing them of actions which could shatter a hard-won truce.

"These guys gotta calm down. It's ridiculous. I didn't like plenty of things that I saw yesterday. I didn't like the fact that Israel unloaded right after we made the deal ... and I didn't like the fact that the retaliation was very strong," Trump told reporters in Washington before leaving for the NATO summit in The Hague.

Trump mentioned that both countries "violated" the ceasefire that was announced late Monday.

"Israel, as soon as we made the deal, they came out and they dropped a load of bombs the likes of which I've never seen before... The biggest load that we've seen, I'm not happy with Israel. When I say now you have 12 hours, you don't go out in the first hour, just drop everything you have on them. So, I'm not happy with him. I'm not happy with Iran either," said the US President.

South Korea: Special counsel seeks warrant to detain ex-President Yoon

The South Korean independent counsel investigating former President Yoon Suk Yeol's short-lived imposition of martial law sought a warrant Tuesday to detain him on charges of obstruction of official duties, officials said.

The special counsel, led by Cho Eun-suk, filed for the warrant against Yoon, pointing to Yoon's repeated refusals to comply with summonses from the police for questioning over his December 3 martial law declaration.

"The counsel, which took over the case Monday, decided to file for an arrest warrant to investigate the suspect," the investigation team said in a notice, referring to Yoon, news agency reported.

Several countries including France, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Jordan on Tuesday strongly condemned Iran’s attack on the US bases in Qatar.

Iran has reportedly fired six missiles towards American military bases in Iraq and Qatar on Monday, furthering the conflict with Israel and the US.

As per media reports, the operation was named “Annunciation of Victory”. However, there have been no major impacts of the missile attack on the US bases in Qatar as American Patriot missile defence systems intercepted Iranian missiles.

South Korea: Lee nominates veteran lawmaker as first civilian defence chief in 64 years

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on Monday named five-term lawmaker Ahn Gyu-back as Defence Minister, the first time in 64 years that a civilian has been nominated for the post, the presidential office said.

Lee's pick of Ahn is seen as carrying out his election pledge to reform the military, a key promise from his presidential campaign to rebuild a nation fractured by the brief imposition of martial law in December last year under his predecessor, the ousted President Yoon Suk Yeol.

The military has come under scrutiny since Yoon deployed troops to the National Assembly when he declared martial law on December 3, allegedly to block lawmakers attempting to stop his brief imposition of martial law decree. Yoon was removed from office in April over the martial law debacle.

South Korean former President Yoon Suk Yeol attended the eighth hearing of his insurrection trial on Monday, but was tight-lipped on a new investigation by independent counsels over his failed martial law bid.

Yoon arrived at the Seoul Central District Court around 10 am to attend the eight hearing of his insurrection trial on charges of leading an insurrection and abusing his power through his December 3 imposition of martial law.

It was Yoon's first trial after his case was transferred to the special counsel team, led by Cho Eun-suk, last week.

Yoon also did not respond to questions about corruption allegations involving his wife, Kim Keon Hee.
