World Health Day Commemoration Programme: Desh Bhagat University Hosts Punjab State’s Health Awareness Initiative

The founding day of the World Health Organisation (WHO) on 07 April 1948 is celebrated as ‘World Health Day’ across the length and breadth of the globe. Each year, for this day, a particular theme based on World Health Organisation’s priority area is chosen. Due to the recurrent pandemic from the past two years, the theme for 2022 is “Our Planet, Our Health.”

The theme prioritises the health of individuals and planet Earth with a quest for a green and disease-free world. It proposes to direct sincere efforts towards creating societies dedicated to health and wellness. Executing the same mission, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Punjab is bringing out a monthly magazine titled, ‘Sahet Jagrukta’ and launching a YouTube channel dedicated to health of its people on 7 April 2022 in a special ceremony in Mohali, Punjab.

Desh Bhagat University in its commitment to foster good health, offered its premises to Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab for the shooting of two short movies on the theme of health awareness. The first one is on the awareness about the drug menace and the second one on ‘Female foeticide.’ The students and faculty of the university showed their acting skills by heartily acting in these short movies. The department of Health and Family Welfare will be honouring Desh Bhagat University’s team on 07 April 2022 at Mohali for their participation and services to this cause.

Honourable Chancellor of the university, Dr. Zora Singh shared that an emphatic response to public health issues demands total societal commitment, and assured that Desh Bhagat University will always offer its unstinted support to provide good health care services to the people of Punjab both in letter and spirit. Pro Chancellor of the university, Dr. Tajinder Kaur shared her concern over the menace of drugs in today’s youth. She also condemned the practice of ‘son preference’ and ‘female foeticide’ in the state.

Vice Chancellor of the university Prof. (Dr.) Shalini Gupta appreciated the efforts of the Punjab state’s Health and Family Welfare team which comprised of Mr. Parminder Singh, State Mass Media Officer and Mr. Gautam Rishi, Mass Media Officer.

Director Media, Desh Bhagat University, Dr. Surjeet Patheja supervised the smooth conduction of the entire event in the university premises.
