Desh Bhagat University Observes Tree Plantation Drive in Loving Memory of Patron, Freedom Fighter Sardar Lal Singh Ji

Chandigarh, June 22 (Dr. Manjinder Kaur Wratch) : To commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the Chief Patron of the university, Freedom Fighter Sardar Lal Singh Ji, Desh Bhagat University organised a Tree Plantation and Sapling Distribution drive at its sprawling campus at Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab.
Honourable Chancellor of the university, Dr. Zora Singh Ji stated that since the beginning of the world, trees have furnished us with life’s two essentials- food and oxygen; with time their role has expanded to heal and enrich our modern spaces. And this ‘Greening Drive’ is a befitting tribute to Sardar Lal Singh Ji’s towering and pre-eminent life. Sardar Lal Singh Ji was an associate of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and was awarded ‘Tamra Patra’ on the occasion of Silver Jubilee Celebrations of India’s Independence on 15th August 1970 by the then Prime Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi in recognition of his contribution to freedom struggle of India.
Respected Pro Chancellor of the university, who is CEO and Ambassador of ‘Hara Punjab, Khara Samaj’- an NGO working for Environmental Concerns, distributed around 1000 saplings having medicinal value to students and faculty of the university. The target is to distribute about 1 Lakh saplings all over Punjab.
This occasion was graced by the benign presence of various dignitaries like- Advisor to Honourable Chancellor, Dr. Varinder Singh, Controller of Examination, Er. Pramod Kumar Mandal, Director Media, Dr. Surjeet Kaur Patheja and Heads of the various departments of Desh Bhagat University.
