HRBO conducted a Jeweller Awareness Programme at Hotel Prem Plaza, Karnal on 01.06.2023

The programme received a huge response with 70 jewellers participating in the programme. The
programme was organised under the guidance and presence Shri Rajiv P, Deputy Director General
(North), Bureau of Indian Standards.
Jewellers were apprised of genesis of Hallmarking Schemes in India, Provisions of Hallmarking
Regulations 2018 and guidelines thereunder.
We apprised the Jewellers about hallmarking module and how to verify HUID through BIS care app and
the procedure of Self registration online. Presentation was made on step-by-step procedure for
Verifying HUID through BIS care, app sending online request to assaying and hallmarking centres,
hallmarking module workflow through Manakonline.in
This was followed by practical demonstration.
a ) In this programme, the latest order issued by Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public
Distribution with respect to sale of only HUID hallmarked jewellery from 1 st April 2023 was also
b) Briefly explained the objectives of hallmarking and their benefit to Jewellers and the motive of
market surveillance at registered Jewellers.
c) Briefly described them the mandatory hallmarking provision of new BIS act, 2016.
d) Help desk contact details were given to the Jewellers.
e) Misconceptions about HUID and market surveillance by BIS were resolved to their satisfaction.
Jewellers appreciated the efforts being made by BIS towards sensitization and handholding of jewellers
for successful implementation of the scheme.
