Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar has been awarded the prestigious Shaheed Bhagat Singh Punjab Annual Environment Award 2023 in recognition of its outstanding efforts and significant contributions in improving and protecting the state's environment. 

The award was presented by Prime Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Singh Mann. The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 100,000, a certificate of appreciation and a silver plate.

Under the visionary leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Jaspal Singh Sandhu, the university has successfully implemented its Zero Waste Green Campus initiative in recent years. These efforts effectively address waste management issues by introducing a comprehensive system for sorting and recycling waste at its source.

In addition, the university actively promotes sustainable modes of transportation such as the use of bicycles and electric buses, builds pedestrian-friendly paths, restricts motor vehicle traffic, and uses a variety of trees, shrubs and seasonal flowers. We have created a green campus.
