The Municipal Corporation has decided to install solar panels on all its big buildings. Whatever electricity is generated from this will be given to the grid. The Municipal Corporation is trying to start the work of installing solar panels on buildings in the current financial year. Municipal Corporation Commissioner Anindita Mitra said that installing solar panels on all the big buildings will save a lot of electricity. The budget for this project has been kept in the budget of the current financial year itself, hence efforts are being made to complete the work in the financial year itself.
These solar panels will be installed on all the big buildings of the Municipal Corporation along with cow sheds, Material Recovery Facility (MRF) centres, all community centers and other buildings. The excess electricity generated from these solar panels will be given to the grid. This decision of the corporation will promote green energy. This will help in achieving the targets set by the administration.
Let us tell you that the administration has set a target of producing 75 MW electricity from solar by the month of December. The administration had already made it mandatory for houses within 500 yards to install solar panels on rooftops. Due to this, the city has become the largest solar energy producing state among the union territories of the country. Currently, solar panels with a capacity of about 64 MW solar energy are installed here. The administration has set a target of installing 100 MW capacity solar panels by 2025.
