A two-day Residential Training Program for Mentors of Standard Clubs

A two-day Residential Training Program was organized by Chandigarh Branch office of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Northern Regional Office, Chandigarh on 07.12.2023 and 08.12.2023 for Mentors of Standard Clubs formed in schools across the State of Punjab. This program was conducted at Northern Region Office, Bureau of Indian Standards, Chandigarh.

DDG, Northern Region, Shri Rajeev P. inaugurated the programme and welcomed the participants from various schools and professional institutions in the state of Punjab & Chandigarh. He informed that BIS has a mission to establish 10000 Standard Clubs in various schools and professional institutes in the country by the end of this year, out of which above 7500 clubs have already been established.

Highlighting the objectives of the program and explaining the BIS activities, Shri Deepak Kumar Aggarwal, Scientist-F & Head, Chandigarh Branch Office informed that BIS has taken initiative to inculcate the concept of standardization and quality among school students. This will prove to be a milestone in developing quality awareness among the young generation and a quality eco-system in the country. He explained this very well by giving examples from daily life. He also gave information about the standards used in practical life and some new standards like the standard of toys. He discussed about the various activities of the Bureau and especially the scheme of hallmarking of gold. During the training, Mr. Ajay Maurya, Scientist D, guided about the formation of Standard Clubs. He explained about the role and responsibilities of the mentors of the clubs. He also gave practical information about the activities required in the schools by the mentors. During the training progamme, many activities were done by forming different groups of all the participants. He also explained the practical process of writing the standards.

Mr.Kushagra Jindal, Scientist B, explained the type and structure of standardization and standards. He said that this activity will enhance practical knowledge among the students would help them in getting employment in the industrial sector. He highlighted the features and usage of BIS website and BIS CARE App. He also explained the ways of effective use of BIS portals. About 35 mentors participated in the programme.

Certificates were awarded to all the participants of the event in the concluding session by DDG (North) Shri Rajiv P.
