Purohit laid the foundation stone of MBBS students' hostel block at GMCH-48

Chandigarh, February 17:

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit on Friday laid the foundation stone of a new hostel block for MBBS students at the Sector 48 campus of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

On this occasion, MP Kiran Kher, UT Advisor Rajeev Verma, UT Engineering Secretary Vijay N Zade, UT Health Secretary Ajay Chagati and other officials of Chandigarh administration were also present.

The hostel, to be completed in two years at a cost of Rs 50 crore, will provide modern facilities including parking for 149 four-wheelers, elevators, a fully equipped kitchen, dining hall, ramps and stairs to ensure smooth movement of students.

The six-storied hostel block, spread over a covered area of 2,40,750 sq. ft., is ready to cater to the urgent need of accommodation for MBBS students. With separate blocks for male and female students, the hostel will accommodate 287 students of each gender, providing a conducive living environment for their academic pursuits.
