BJP may get a big blow from the Supreme Court today on the Chandigarh Mayor election...

February 20, 2024

Chandigarh, 20 Feb:

Expressing concern over the 'buying' of the councilors in the case of the Chandigarh mayor election, the Supreme Court said that after a thorough examination of the ballot paper and video recordings and other records, instead of conducting a fresh election, the election result should be based on the previous votes cast. May consider being announced. If that happens, it will be a big blow for BJP. Because if the eight rejected votes are found to be correct, then the Congress-AAP alliance is set to become the mayor.

The Supreme Court has directed the Registrar General of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to present the entire record on February 20 at 2 pm today. A bench consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra slammed Returning Officer Anil Masih for the mayoral election and said that he should be prosecuted for 'tampering with ballot papers'. is

CJI Chandrachud said, "This is a very serious matter....if any fraud or deception is revealed, you will be prosecuted....why were you looking at the camera and why did you mark the ballot paper?" In response, Masih said that he had already put a 'cross' on eight 'invalid' ballot papers. On this, the bench said, "This means you marked the ballot papers.

He should be prosecuted. This cannot be allowed in an electoral democracy.'' Returning officer Anil Masih declared the BJP candidate Manoj Sonkar the winner after disqualifying eight votes of the Congress-AAP alliance in the election held on January 30. Sonkar got 16 votes while AAP's Kuldeep Kumar got 12 votes. Sonkar has resigned from the post.
