The government has ordered the closure of accounts related to the farmers' movement

New Delhi, 22 Feb:

Elon Musk's 'X' has claimed that it has received government orders to block specific accounts and posts. X has accepted this order but also disagreed with it. However, the government is yet to respond to X's claims. X's Global Government Affairs team has given this information through a post.

The Government Affairs team wrote - "Government of India has issued executive orders calling for action against certain X Account accounts and posts. These accounts may face fines and even jail terms." Following the orders, we will block these accounts and posts in India itself.

However, we disagree with these actions and believe that freedom of speech should exist and extend to the people. We have also provided notice of these actions to affected users in accordance with our policies. Due to legal restrictions we are unable to publish the executive orders, but we believe it is necessary to make them public for the sake of transparency.

Let us tell you that the Indian government gives orders to block such controversial accounts or social media accounts, with which there is a risk of deterioration of social harmony. In this regard, X receives the highest number of orders. Before this, even when X was called Twitter, the Indian government used to issue such orders. Earlier too, X has disagreed with the blocking of several accounts following government orders.
