World Earth Day Celebrated at Desh Bhagat University

Desh Bhagat University, through its Placebo Club in collaboration with the Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, marked World Earth Day with a series of impactful events aimed at fostering environmental consciousness and encouraging proactive measures to safeguard our planet. The highlight of the day was a thought-provoking guest lecture organized by the Placebo Club, where students from the School of Pharmacy, Sardar Lal Singh Memorial College of Pharmacy, and Mata Jarnail Kaur College of Pharmacy gathered to delve into discussions on environmental challenges and solutions.  The guest speaker at the event, Executive Director of NGO Kheti Virasat Mission, Umendra Dutt, emphasized the urgency of addressing environmental issues and commended the enthusiastic participation of students in competitions like Rangoli making and Slogan Writing, revolving around the theme "Planet vs Plastic." These competitions aimed to raise awareness about pressing environmental concerns such as climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, deforestation, and the importance of adopting sustainable lifestyles.The event commenced with an inaugural address by Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University. On this occasion, he asked what the meaning of Earth Day is. Has any political party included environment or pollution in its election manifesto? Did anyone ever understand its importance? How insensitive is our system? We should benefit from such scholars. On this occasion, Vice President Dr. Harsh Sadawarti was also present. It is followed by welcome remarks from Kirti and Ms. Oshina, Assistant Professors. Vishal, Assistant Professor, and Chandan Swapnil played a pivotal role as the event coordinator, ensuring the smooth execution of activities.  Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Pro-Chancellor of the university, extended her congratulations to the Placebo Club, faculty members, and students for their dedicated efforts in organizing a successful event that resonated with the spirit of Earth Day. Prof. Dr. Abhijit Joshi, Vice Chancellor, applauded the students for their active involvement and encouraged the continuation of such impactful initiatives in the future. Dr. Puja Gulati, Principal of the School of Pharmacy, stressed the importance of raising awareness about environmental issues and fostering a sense of responsibility towards sustainable living practices among the youth.The event concluded with Dr. Shailesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of S. Lal Singh Memorial College of Pharmacy, announcing the competition results, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Khushpal, Principal of MJK College of Pharmacy.
