BJP’s Plot to Turn Punjab into a Desert Will Not Succeed, Warns AAP Leader Neel Garg

Chandigarh, May 3

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) strongly condemned the BJP-led governments at the Center and Haryana for their repeated attempts to rob Punjab of its rightful share of water. AAP leader and Senior Spokesperson Neel Garg exposed the misleading claims made by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini regarding water allocation and usage.

“Today, we witnessed another brazen attempt by the BJP to distort facts and mislead the people. Haryana CM Nayab Saini falsely claimed that Haryana is only asking for its share of water, but the data tells a very different story,” said Garg.

Citing data published in a reputed national newspaper, Neel Garg revealed the real figures of BBMB water share. Rajasthan: Allocated 3.398 MAF, consumed 3.738 MAF – used 10% excess. Haryana: Allocated 2.987 MAF, consumed 3.091 MAF – 3% excess used. Punjab: Allocated 5.512 MAF, utilized only 4.925 MAF – used only 89% of its share.

“These numbers prove that both Haryana and Rajasthan have already exceeded their allocated quotas, while Punjab has used less than its rightful share. Yet, the BJP continues its baseless campaign to snatch Punjab’s water,” added Garg.

Garg also criticized the BJP for its newfound rhetoric about respecting the federal structure. “It is ironic that Nayab Singh Saini was talking about Federal Structure when the BJP has consistently undermined the Constitution and the federal structure envisioned by Dr. BR Ambedkar. The people of India know how the BJP manipulates narratives to suit its agenda,” said Garg.

Neel Garg accused the BJP governments at the Center and in Haryana of trying to exploit Punjab's resources for political gain. “Punjab’s water is not just a resource; it is the lifeline for our farmers and future generations. We will not allow anyone to turn Punjab into a desert,” he asserted.

Neel Garg highlighted that Haryana CM Nayab Saini's claims do not match with what they told at a recent meeting chaired by the Union Home Secretary. Garg questioned, “If Haryana’s claims had any merit, why did they demand only a temporary loan of water at the meeting, capped at 4,500 cusecs, instead of validating their demands? This clearly demonstrates that Haryana’s presented data lacks credibility and accuracy.”

He further criticized the BJP for its mismanagement of water resources. “Haryana has already consumed its quota by March and is now eyeing Punjab’s share. This blatant misuse and exploitation of water resources by Haryana highlights the BJP’s failure to manage water efficiently,” he added.

Concluding his statement, Neel Garg reiterated AAP’s unwavering stand to protect Punjab’s water and the rights of its farmers. “Punjab will not tolerate this daylight robbery. We demand that the BJP stop its conspiracy against Punjab immediately. The people of Punjab are united in their resolve to safeguard their resources,” he stated.
