University School of Law Hosts Special Lecture on "Professional Ethics in Law and Responsibility of Advocates"

The University School of Law at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University organized a thought-provoking special lecture on “Professional Ethics in Law and Responsibility of Advocates”, emphasizing the critical role of integrity and accountability in the legal profession. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and legal dignitaries. The program commenced with the warm welcome of the Chief Guest, Advocate Rakesh Gupta, Chairman , Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Prit Pal Singh, Dean Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Registrar, Prof. Tejbir Singh, Advocate Simaranjot Kaur and Advocate Jasleen Kaur, by Prof. Dr. Amita Kaushal, Head and Dean, University School of Law. Dr.Kaushal underscored the relevance of ethical practices in shaping competent legal professionals, stating that ethics are the bedrock of justice. She said that as future advocates, students must uphold these values to sustain public trust in the legal system. The highlight of the event was an engaging lecture by Rakesh Gupta , who drew from his decades-long judicial career to elaborate on contemporary ethical dilemmas. He stressed the balance between legal rigor and moral accountability, noting that advocates are guardians of justice. Through real-world examples, he illustrated the consequences of ethical lapses and the enduring impact of principled advocacy. Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh lauded the department for organizing the lecture, calling it “timely and essential.” Reflecting on the theme, he emphasized that an advocate’s responsibility extends beyond the courtroom. Upholding ethics ensures the dignity of the profession and strengthens democracy. He encouraged students to internalize ethical principles as non-negotiable tenets of their careers.
Dr. Navneet Kaur, Department Incharge, concluded the session with a vote of thanks. The event concluded with a dynamic Question & Answer session, allowing students to engage directly with the speakers.
