In heartfelt celebration of World Environment Day, the Girls’ Hostel of Desh Bhagat University, in collaboration with the University School of Law, launched an inspiring and emotionally resonant campaign titled “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”.
The event was inaugurated with grace and gravitas by Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Vice Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University. In his keynote address, Dr. Sadawarti called for immediate and sustained efforts to protect nature and urged students to become ambassadors of sustainability in all spheres of life.
Dr. Arti, Faculty Incharge, and Mrs. Narinder Kaur, along with wardens Ms. Parmjeet Kaur, Ms. Sukhjinder Kaur, and Ms. Ankita, expressed deep gratitude to all attendees.
As a moving tribute to motherhood, students planted saplings across the university campus, each one dedicated to their mothers. A large number of girl students from various departments took part enthusiastically and pledged to embrace sustainable habits in their daily lives. Adding to the environmental fervor, the AGRIM Club of the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences organized “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, focusing on the theme “Awareness for Putting an End to Plastic Pollution.” This extension of the campaign was held in various adopted villages associated with the university, aiming to bridge academic efforts with rural community engagement.A large-scale tree plantation was carried out in several villages, with enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and local residents. The drive was led by dignitaries including Dr. H.K. Sidhu, and Prof. Dr. Khushboo Bansal, who inspired the community with their motivating words. With support from Hara Punjab Khara Samaj, practical demonstrations on plastic waste management were held. Cloth bags were distributed to encourage the shift away from single-use plastics.
