The Centre of Internship and Social Outreach, Department of Education at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, successfully conducted a five-day School Finishing Program titled “From Campus to Career: Transitioning into the Teaching Profession” for final-year B.A.-B.Ed. students. This program was envisioned as a bridge between academic learning and professional practice, aiming to equip aspiring teachers with the skills, confidence, and ethical grounding essential for a smooth transition into the classroom. The initiative was led by Dr. Harneet Billing, Head of the Department, and coordinated by Dr. Gagandeep Tiwana. Over the course of five days, students were immersed in sessions that addressed real-time classroom demands and professional expectations through a blend of expert talks, experiential learning, and interactive activities.
Amritpal Singh, Principal, Government High School, Sadhugar, engaged the participants with an insightful session on “The Art of Classroom Presence”. He emphasized how body language, voice modulation, and the ability to build rapport with students are just as crucial as content knowledge. His reflections on the emotional intelligence required for maintaining a positive classroom environment resonated deeply with the students.
Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Lecturer at DIET, Fatehgarh Sahib, explored the interconnectedness of communication, confidence, and collaboration. He drew attention to the role of soft skills in fostering a constructive teacher-student dynamic and highlighted the importance of teamwork among educators. Dr. Jagdeep Kaur, Principal of Government Senior Secondary School, Allipur Sodhian, brought into focus the often-overlooked dimensions of ethics and professionalism in the teaching vocation. Her practical advice on handling the uncertainties and pressures of the first year in service was both grounding and inspiring. She reminded participants that teaching is not just a profession but a moral responsibility. Simarjeet Kaur, Principal of Punjab National School, Behrampur, led a compelling workshop on conflict resolution and crisis management. Drawing from her own experience, she guided students through case-based scenarios, encouraging them to approach disruptions with empathy, patience, and a solution-oriented mindset. The concluding session by Dr. Gagandeep Tiwana addressed career readiness, ethical responsibilities, and professional planning. Students were encouraged to reflect on their personal goals and align them with the values of inclusive and responsible teaching.
Throughout the program, students participated with enthusiasm in discussions, role-plays, and reflective exercises that deepened their understanding of the profession. The initiative fostered a spirit of preparedness, not only in terms of pedagogical technique but also in attitude and adaptability. Prof. (Dr.) Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs, expressed appreciation for the department’s commitment to meaningful and practice-oriented training. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Pritpal Singh praised the relevance of the program, highlighting its role in shaping confident, capable, and ethically grounded educators.
