In a major step towards enhancing safety, reliability, and operational efficiency, Northern railways/Ambala division Division has successfully commissioned the Electronic Interlocking (EI) system at Khanalampura west terminals, replacing the age-old Mechanical Interlocking system . The aproximate cost of the project is 17 crore. This transition marks a significant technological upgrade in the railway signaling system, enabling automated route setting and improved train handling capacity. The Electronic Interlocking system has been installed in compliance with the latest RDSO-approved safety standards and is integrated with state-of-the-art fail-safe microprocessor-based technology. The key benefits of the new system includes enhanced safety through error-free electronic logic and built-in fail-safe operations. It will improve punctuality by modern signaling operation. This system also leads to capacity augmentation by enabling simultaneous train movements and faster route setting. With this commissioning, Khanalampura west terminal now joins the growing network of Indian Railways stations equipped with Electronic Interlocking, reinforcing the commitment of Indian Railways to adopt modern technologies for safer and faster train operations. The reliability of the yard has been improved by provision of multi section digital axle counter (MSDAC). This milestone is part of Indian Railways’ broader initiative to phase out obsolete signaling systems and modernize rail infrastructure to meet the demands of the future.
