The Department of Sociology at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib marked the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking by organizing a special lecture to raise awareness among students about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of proactive prevention. The event was conducted under the theme of the official 2025 slogan: “Breaking the Chains: Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery for All”.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Nav Shagan Deep Kaur, Head, Department of Sociology. In her lecture, Dr. Kaur shed light on the complex social and psychological dimensions of drug addiction and stressed the critical role of education, family, and community in combating this issue. She urged students to become ambassadors of awareness and support efforts for prevention, treatment, and recovery.
The session saw enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, followed by an interactive discussion that encouraged open dialogue on strategies to build a drug-free society. This initiative reflected the Department's continued commitment to foster socially responsible citizenship and to promote health-oriented values among the youth.
