Desh Bhagat University today observed Hiroshima Day under the theme “From Ashes to Hope: Educate for Peace, Innovate for a Better World.” The event paid tribute to the victims of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, while encouraging students to work toward a peaceful and progressive future. The commemoration opened with a powerful address by Dr. Surinder Kapoor, Registrar of Desh Bhagat University, who urged the university community to remember the lessons of history.“ Today is not just a day of remembrance, but a call to action,” Dr. Kapoor stated. “We must ensure that such devastation is never repeated. Education, awareness, and compassion are our greatest tools for peace.” Vice Chancellor Dr. Harsh Sadawarti emphasized the value of such initiatives as meaningful tributes to the victims, fostering reflection, empathy, and a collective commitment to peace. Dr. Arashdeep, Director of Student Welfare, urged students to become peace ambassadors, blending knowledge with empathy. The event featured a peace march across the campus, with students holding symbolic books and olive branches - representing education as a path to peace and the rejection of violence. Participants also held a moment of silence in memory of the lives lost in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
