Yogi govt's crackdown on illegal encroachments near Nepal border; unauthorised structures demolished

In a sweeping crackdown, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has taken major action against illegal encroachments in the districts near the India-Nepal border, demolishing hundreds of unauthorised structures, including unrecognised religious institutions.

The large-scale drive, which aimed to free valuable government land from unlawful occupation, was carried out in border districts such as Bahraich, Shravasti, Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj, and Balrampur.

The special anti-encroachment operation, conducted between April 25 and April 27, targeted areas within a 10 to 15-kilometre radius of the Nepal border. These regions had long seen the proliferation of illegal structures on public land, some of which included unregistered religious sites.

Authorities said the move is part of a broader push to secure sensitive border areas and restore public property.

IPL 2025: KL would be my first choice to bat, keep wickets in T20Is, says Pietersen

Delhi Capitals (DC) mentor Kevin Pietersen believes KL Rahul’s transformed batting approach for the side in IPL 2025 should translate into a return for the wicketkeeper-batter in India’s T20I set-up.

Rahul last played T20Is for India in 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup, where he made only 128 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 120.75 and came under fire for playing an outdated style of T20 cricket. But since joining DC in IPL 2025, Rahul has reinvented his style of playing T20s, with its base being playing aggressively with greater freedom – as seen from him amassing 364 runs in eight games, with an average of 60.67 and strike-rate of 146.18.

IPL 2025: Arya, Prabhsimran light Up Eden Gardens as PBKS post 201/4

IPL 2025: Arya, Prabhsimran light Up Eden Gardens as PBKS post 201/4

For the first time this season at Eden Gardens, a team won the toss and chose to bat first — and Punjab Kings made the most of it as Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran partnered together to propel visitors to 201/4 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 20 overs at Eden Gardens.

Led by an electrifying opening stand of 120 in 72 deliveries between young Priyansh Arya and the ever-daring Prabhsimran Singh, PBKS posted an imposing total against Kolkata Knight Riders, despite a late stumble in the final overs.

On a pitch that both captains and coaches described as "dry" and "very slow", Arya and Prabhsimran made batting look easy in the early overs. Arya, in particular, was in sublime touch right from the outset, caressing cover drives and punishing anything even slightly off length. The duo raced to 43/0 in just four overs, with Arya responsible for all four boundaries struck between mid-off and cover.

The approach was clear: play risk-free cricket but punish the bad balls, and in the process, they dominated the powerplay, finishing at 56/0 after six overs.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta orders construction of 500 new creches

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday ordered construction of 500 new creches or ‘Palna’ centres to augment the existing 187 daycare facilities and also unveiled plans to build two new working women’s hostels.

Chairing a review meeting with officials of the Department of Women and Child Development at the Delhi Secretariat, the CM also directed comprehensive redevelopment of Anganwadi Centres, while instructing officials to conduct regular visits them to ensure that they are safer, cleaner, and more child-friendly, aiming to provide nurturing, safe, and educational premises for every child.

"The empowerment of women and children cannot be achieved merely through policies, but through their effective and sensitive implementation. Every woman and child is entitled to dignity and security. The dream of a 'Viksit Delhi' will be realised only when our women and children are safe, empowered, and self-reliant,” she said.

Currently, the city has 187 operational Palna Centres, which provide childcare and ensure safety for children. In light of growing needs, the CM instructed the concerned officials to establish 500 new Palna Centres in industrial zones, markets, and near construction sites.

Yemen's Houthis take responsibility for fresh missile attack on Israel

Yemen's Houthis on Saturday claimed responsibility for a missile attack that reportedly triggered sirens across southern Israel, earlier in the day.

"We targeted the Israeli enemy's Nevatim Air Base in the Negev region using a hypersonic ballistic missile," which had "successfully reached the target," Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said in a televised statement aired by Houthi-run al-Masirah TV.

Sarea said the operation came in response to "the ongoing Israeli offensive on Gaza," vowing to launch more attacks until the Israeli aggression on the Palestinian enclave stops and the blockade on it is lifted.

Earlier in the day, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that it intercepted a missile fired from Yemen.
