India has potential to play key role in new world order, says FM Sitharaman

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday said that India will need to play a crucial role in the "global reset" as the new world order will not be determined by the developed nations.

"Developed countries have the money to invest, but that is not going to be sufficient for them either. Trade and technology will play a crucial role in the new world order and India will need to participate," the Finance Minister said at a media event in the national capital.

She highlighted that India has to make a meaningful contribution to the global reset as much as make continuous efforts towards moving up the ladder in terms of per capita income and becoming a business destination furthering global growth.

More than seven in 10 (77 per cent) of professionals in India anticipate significant salary growth in their industry, while 20 per cent expect no change and only 3 per cent foresee a decline, a report showed on Thursday.

The job market highlights a significant divide in salary satisfaction, with a large portion of professionals feeling dissatisfied with their compensation growth, while professionals in select industries reporting higher contentment levels.

According to the survey by jobs platform foundit (formerly Monster APAC and ME), 47 per cent of professionals are not satisfied with their salary growth, citing low increments and unfulfilled expectations. Meanwhile, 25 per cent of respondents remain neutral -- while they acknowledge limited salary growth, they do not see it as a pressing concern.

Only 46 per cent of respondents believe their salary is above average, while 40 per cent feel it is below industry standards.

As police hunt for the accused in the case of the sexual assault of a woman on a bus in Pune depot, another incident of molestation came to light on Thursday wherein a young IT professional was molested by the cab driver who has now been arrested.

A woman working in an IT company in Maharashtra's Pune was molested by the driver who made obscene gestures to her from the front mirror.

The woman jumped out of the taxi, and after running almost two kilometres, she complained to the Khadki police station.

According to police sources, the incident took place on February 21, and they arrested the cab driver, Sumit Kumar, who is from Uttar Pradesh, in this case.

70 pc Indian women now prefer residential real estate for investment: Report

With growing independence and higher disposable incomes, women in India are increasingly coming to the housing market as convinced investors and 70 per cent women now prefer residential real estate for investment, a report showed on Thursday.

While women have always been the key decision-makers in the home buying process in India, they now increasingly make independent, individual property purchases, according to the latest Anarock ‘Consumer Sentiment Survey’ from H2 2024.

A significant majority of them (69 per cent) are end-users, though investors are not far behind.

“The survey finds the end-use-to-investment ratio for women homebuyers at 69:31 against 79:21 in the H2 2022 edition. Even more remarkable is their firm preference for housing over the other popular investment asset classes Indians gravitate to,” said Anuj Puri, Chairman, Anarock Group.
