Power cuts back in Delhi soon after BJP win in election: Atishi

Linking the exit of AAP from the Delhi government to the return of power cuts, former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Thursday alleged that long blackouts have been taking place in many parts of the city since the Assembly election with many voters realising their mistake of electing the BJP.

Addressing the media five days after the AAP lost power in Delhi after 11 years, Atishi said the BJP does not know how to run a government. “From 1993 to 1998, when the BJP was in power the state of Delhi’s power sector was deplorable,” she said.

The Kalkaji legislator said that people have started realising the mistake they have committed by voting the BJP to power, adding that it is the same story in all the states where the BJP is in power.

“Within three days of winning the Delhi election, the BJP has started converting Delhi into Uttar Pradesh where long power cuts of 3-4 hours take place every day,” she said.

Air pollution, vitamin B12 deficiency major culprits behind rising anaemia in India: Experts

Air pollution, vitamin B12 deficiency major culprits behind rising anaemia in India: Experts

While anaemia is long known to be caused by iron deficiency, experts on Thursday noted that air pollution and vitamin B12 deficiency have emerged as major culprits behind its increasing prevalence in the country.

Anaemia occurs when there isn’t enough haemoglobin in the body to carry oxygen to the organs and tissues. The condition, which mainly affects women and children, leads to the lower count of red blood cells or the haemoglobin. In severe cases, anaemia can cause poor cognitive and motor development in children.

“Emerging research has suggested that anaemia in India is not solely due to iron deficiency. Two additional factors warrant attention: air pollution and vitamin B12 deficiency,” Dr K Madan Gopal, a public health expert working at the National Health Systems Resource Center, a premier think tank of the Health Ministry, New Delhi,

Hiring in India grows 9 pc in last 3 months, green jobs surge: Report

India's job market is experiencing robust growth, with white-collar hiring surging 9 per cent in the last three months, according to a report on Thursday.

The report by foundit (formerly Monster APAC & ME), a jobs and talent platform, showed that green jobs -- those that contribute to preserve or restore the environment -- stand out as a key highlight, witnessing a remarkable 41 per cent increase over the last two years driven by expanding clean energy initiatives.

Sectors like semiconductors, energy, and waste management are leading this growth, fuelled by global net-zero emission targets.

Bengaluru, Delhi, and Pune have emerged as key hubs for these roles. Demand for green jobs is projected to rise another 11 per cent in 2025, driven by renewable energy, EVs, and green hydrogen initiatives.

3rd ODI: England were outplayed by 'fantastic' India, says Jos Buttler after big defeat

England skipper Jos Buttler admitted his team were outplayed by India in the three-match ODI series which concluded with a 142-run defeat for the visitors at Narendra Modi Stadium here on Wednesday.

England batters heavily struggled against spin throughout their tour of India, which included a 1-4 defeat in the five-game T20I series and will need to make quick changes to their approach ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy set to kick off in Pakistan on February 19.

"Similar to the whole tour, we were outplayed by a fantastic team. Our approach is the right one, it's just that we haven't executed well. They put a great score on the board. Shubman played a great innings. We got off to a great start again but it's a familiar story for us. We need to find a way to bat for longer. We were up against a really good side that keeps challenging us," said Buttler in the post-game presentation.

3rd ODI: Gill’s ton, all-round bowling show help India sweep England 3-0

3rd ODI: Gill’s ton, all-round bowling show help India sweep England 3-0

Opener Shubman Gill’s majestic 112, along with solid half-centuries by Shreyas Iyer (78) and Virat Kohli (52), propelled India to a massive 356 in the third and final ODI against England. This commanding total proved too much for the visitors, who were bowled out for 214, handing India a comprehensive 142-run victory and a 3-0 series clean sweep.

Gill has been firing on all cylinders in the ongoing series and was named the player of the series for scoring 259 across the three innings at an average of 86.33.

England captain Jos Buttler won his third consecutive toss and opted to field first, However, it was a decision that quickly backfired as India’s top order, barring Rohit Sharma fired on all cylinders.

Rohit was dismissed for just 1 through a beautiful delivery by Mark Wood which found his outside edge, and Phil Salt pouched it. Despite the early setback, Gill and Kohli steadied the ship.

3rd ODI: England batters fail to impress again as India clean sweep series with 142-run win

3rd ODI: England batters fail to impress again as India clean sweep series with 142-run win

England batters once again failed to impress as Harshit Rana, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya claimed two wickets each to seal an emphatic 142-run victory for India in the third ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Wednesday. Despite getting off to a great start, England failed to capitalise on the solid start, and inconsistency through their batting order once again raised many red flags for the side heading into the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Openers Ben Duckett (34) and Phil Salt (23) flew straight out of the floodgates scoring at 10 runs an over in the Power-play. The duo recorded a fifty-plus partnership for the fourth time in their last five games in the format but the story remained the same. Duckett started the onslaught early hitting Arshdeep Singh for four consecutive boundaries in the fifth over. However, it was the left-arm pacer who had the last laugh dismissing the left-hander in his next over.

A slower ball by Arshdeep saw Duckett slash the ball straight down the ground but could not time it well enough. The ball which travelled high, failed to clear the 30-yard circle making for a simple catch for Rohit Sharma at mid-off.

Tom Banton (38), who replaced Jamie Overton in the side on the day, started strongly hitting a six in the next over off Washington Sundar. He received a lifeline two deliveries later as a thin edge saw the ball zip past wicketkeeper KL Rahul and race away for a four.
