A massive fire broke out in a residential building in Delhi's Dwarka Sector-13 on Tuesday morning, killing three members of a family, a father and his two 10-year-old children, after they jumped from their 9th-floor flat in a desperate attempt to escape the flames.

The incident occurred at the Shapath Society near MRV School, where flames reportedly engulfed the 8th and 9th floors around 9:58 A.M.

People panicked, causing a rush in the area but most residents were safely evacuated from the building.

However, when the family jumped from their flat in panic, the people tried to save them but were not successful in doing so.

Eight fire tenders and a sky lift were rushed to the spot by the fire department, which carried out rescue operations and evacuated all residents from the building.

Job insecurity, lack of childcare, poor health behind rising fertility crisis: UNFPA

Job insecurity, lack of childcare, poor health behind rising fertility crisis: UNFPA

Job insecurity, lack of reliable childcare, and poor health are the barriers behind the rising fertility crisis, according to the latest report by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) released on Tuesday.

The State of World Population (SOWP) report showed that millions of people are not able to realise their real fertility goals -- that is a person’s ability to make free and informed choices about sex, contraception, and starting a family. It called for a shift from panic over falling fertility to addressing unmet reproductive goals.

The report, which included a UNFPA-YouGov survey across 14 countries, including India, with 14,000 respondents reveals multiple barriers to reproductive autonomy in India.

Financial limitations (40 per cent) were one of the biggest barriers to reproductive freedom. This was followed by job insecurity (21 per cent), housing constraints (22 per cent), and the lack of reliable childcare (18 per cent) that is making parenthood feel out of reach.

Kharge writes to PM Modi, seeks Deputy Speaker election

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to initiate the election process for the Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha, noting that the post has remained vacant for two consecutive terms -- a first in Independent India's parliamentary history.

Sharing his letter on X, Kharge highlighted that Article 93 of the Constitution mandates the election of both a Speaker and a Deputy Speaker in the Lok Sabha.

He said the failure to fill the post during the 17th Lok Sabha and its continued vacancy in the 18th term "does not augur well for India's democratic polity" and also violates constitutional principles and undermines democratic tradition.

Hiring intent in India steady at 42 pc for July-September period: Report

The hiring intent in India remains steady in the third quarter this year (July-September) globally, driven by strong growth in the private services sector and expectations of economic benefits stemming from shifts in global trade dynamics, especially in relation to China, according to a report released on Tuesday.

Employers report a Net Employment Outlook (NEO) of 42 per cent for the July-September period, according to the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey.

The results, based on responses from 3,146 employers across India during April 2025, show the Indian hiring Outlook remains very animated. Amid these favourable conditions, India continues to position itself as a key player in the global employment landscape.

“As we enter the third quarter of 2025, India’s employment Outlook remains robust, with a NEO of 42 per cent -- among the highest globally. Despite a slight dip from the previous quarter, the 12-point year-on-year gain highlights sustained employer confidence and growth momentum in the labour market,” said Sandeep Gulati, Managing Director, ManpowerGroup India and Middle East.

Mamata govt to move bill to amend West Bengal Clinical Establishments Act in Assembly

A bill to amend the existing West Bengal Clinical Establishments Act will be moved by the Mamata Banerjee government during the state Assembly's ongoing session.

A senior member of the cabinet said that amending the State Clinical Establishment Act has become necessary following frequent complaints received by the health department against private medical establishments, accusing the latter of not maintaining any transparency in their billing systems.

“The main complaint is that often these private establishments are alluring patients by announcing specific packages for particular treatments. However, often patients availing of the treatment under those packages are charged much more than what was announced in the packages. In that case, the extra amounts are shown as miscellaneous charges. The amended State Clinical Establishment Act will address these irregularities,” the cabinet member said.
