Bomb threat at two Jaipur Hotels: Ministers among evacuated guests

Two prominent hotels in Jaipur, namely Holiday Inn and Raffles, received bomb threats on Saturday, prompting immediate evacuation. Notably, three Rajasthan ministers, including Minister of State for Home Jawahar Singh Bedham, were attending a private event at the Holiday Inn when the threat was received.

The Holiday Inn, located at 22 Godown Circle, received a threatening email at 10:30 AM and during the programme, Ministers K.K. Vishnoi (Entrepreneurship) and Gautam Dak (Cooperation) were also present.

Upon being informed by police officials, Minister Bedham addressed the gathering and announced the evacuation. All three ministers safely exited the premises.

Shortly after, at 12:05 PM, the Raffles Hotel on Delhi Road also received a similar threat via email.

Property registrations across budget categories in the city continued to scale new high in the first five months of 2025, a report showed on Saturday.

According to the Maharashtra State Revenue Department, the overall revenue collected by the authorities from property registrations and the total registrations in Mumbai in January to May 2025 was at a record high.

An analysis of the data of Inspector General of Registration (IGR), Maharashtra revealed that the overall revenue collected from property registrations in Mumbai stood at nearly Rs 5,695 crore in the first five months of 2025, according to the report by Anarock Group.

This is 17 per cent more than last year’s corresponding period (January- May 2024) when the revenue collected was approx. Rs 4,860 crore.

22 villages in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu affected as debris from sunken cargo ship off Kerala coast washes ashore

At least 22 coastal villages in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari district have reported being affected by debris from the sunken Liberian-flagged cargo vessel, MSC ELSA-3, which went down off the Kerala coast on May 24.

The wreckage, including plastic pellets, wooden logs, and even a container, has been steadily washing ashore in the villages of Killiyoor and Kalkulam taluks over the past three days.

The vessel was reportedly carrying 640 containers, including 13 with hazardous cargo and 12 with calcium carbide.

In addition, it had 84.44 metric tonnes of diesel and 367.1 metric tonnes of furnace oil on board.

Normal life across Jammu and Kashmir was adversely affected on Saturday due to incessant rain as mountain passes were closed due to fresh snowfall/landslides.

Authorities shut all primary schools in Rajouri district due to incessant rain and thunderstorms.

Mountain passes to Gurez in Bandipora district and to Tangdhar and Karnah in Kupwara district were also closed.

Higher reaches have received fresh snowfall. Temperatures in Jammu and Kashmir have come down as people had to wear woollens due to chilly winds blowing here from snow-clad mountain peaks.

The MET department has said that there is the possibility of moderate to heavy rain/thunder/gusty winds at scattered places on Saturday.

"During the past 24 hours, light to moderate rain/thundershower occurred at most places. Poonch district recorded 39 mm, Baramulla 22 mm rain with Gusty winds, Samba 72 mm, Jammu 65 mm, and Kathua recorded 58 mm rain," the weather office said.

In a significant boost to space exploration, the Donald Trump-led US government has proposed $1 billion in new investments for Mars exploration programmes.

The White House’s 2026 budget proposal, released late on Friday, also allocates over $7 billion for lunar exploration.

“By allocating over $7 billion for lunar exploration and introducing $1 billion in new investments for Mars-focused programmes, the Budget ensures that America’s human space exploration efforts remain unparalleled, innovative, and efficient,” the Budget document said.

The budget proposal also includes a new NASA initiative called the Commercial Mars Payload Services Program (CMPS). Similar to the previous Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) programme, CMPS aims to leverage private sector expertise and investment for space exploration.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has confirmed the suspension of LS Industries, its promoter Profound Finance, and four other individuals from participating in the securities markets.

The action comes as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of fraudulent activities and manipulation of the company’s share price.

The individuals barred include Jahangir Panikkaveettil Perumbarambathu, the promoter of Profound Finance, as well as Suresh Goyal, Alka Sahni, and Shashi Kant Sahni HUF, a Dubai-based NRI shareholder of LS Industries.

SEBI has extended the deadline for completing the investigation until November 15 and has directed all involved parties to cooperate fully with the inquiry.

Africa CDC urges aggressive action to curb mpox outbreak in southern Ethiopia

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) called for aggressive efforts to control mpox in southern Ethiopia to avert possible cross-border spread.

The East African country reported its first mpox case on May 25 when a 21-day-old infant tested positive in Moyale near the Kenyan border.

On Friday, the Ethiopian Ministry of Health announced that the number of cases has now reached six as three new cases were confirmed.

During an online media briefing on Thursday evening, Ngashi Ngongo, chief of staff and head of the Executive Office at Africa CDC, expressed concern due to Moyale town's close proximity to neighbouring Somalia.

"The proximity to Somalia, and knowing all the challenges in Somalia, makes it so that we really need to be very bold and aggressive to control this outbreak from the source so that it does not expand from the region," he said.

Sudan receives 2.9 million cholera vaccine doses amid surge in cases

The Sudanese Ministry of Health announced that it has received over 2.9 million doses of the cholera vaccine amid a surge in cases, especially in the capital Khartoum.

"A total of 2,905,400 cholera vaccine doses have been received as part of efforts to combat the cholera outbreak currently affecting Sudan, particularly in Khartoum State," the ministry said in a statement on Friday.

It noted that the vaccines were donated by the International Coordinating Group (ICG) on Vaccine Provision, with support from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

The vaccines, received in the eastern city of Port Sudan, will be transported to Khartoum State, where a large-scale vaccination campaign is set to begin in the coming days, targeting all residents aged one and above, the statement said.

Israel carried out airstrikes on multiple military targets in Syria's coastal provinces of Tartus and Latakia, including a former special forces headquarters and military positions near civilian areas, according to Syrian state media and a war monitor.

In Tartus, the airstrikes targeted a military facility formerly used by special forces, as well as sites in the al-Wuhaib industrial area and the al-Blata barracks, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor.

State-run al-Ikhbariya TV reported that Israeli warplanes hit the village of Zama in the Jableh countryside, as well as military sites in the Mina al-Bayda port area and the 107th Brigade base in neighbouring Latakia province.
