Arkade Developers' net profit falls by 13 pc sequentially to Rs 29 crore in Q1

Arkade Developers Ltd's net profit for the first quarter of the current financial year (Q1 FY26) stood at Rs 28.75 crore, down over 13 per cent sequentially, the company said in an exchange filing on Friday.

The real estate developer had posted a consolidated profit of Rs 33.26 crore in the preceding quarter (Q4 FY25).

The company's profit declined by over 4 per cent on a year-on-year (YoY) from Rs 30.21 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago (Q1 FY25).

NHRC takes cognisance of man’s suicide following torture by UP Police

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of the suicide of a man after alleged physical torture in police custody in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad.

The police had called the victim to a police station following a complaint against him by his wife. The following night, the victim hanged himself with a saree in his room, leaving a message written on the pants he was wearing.

Taking note of a press report, the apex human rights body said the contents of the news report, if true, raise a serious violation of the human rights of the victim.

The NHRC issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police and called for a detailed report on the matter within two weeks.

Over 78 pc Indian Railways tracks upgraded for speed of 110 kmph & above: Vaishnaw

Over 78 per cent of railway tracks in the country have now been upgraded for speeds of 110 kmph and above, with the improvement in the Indian Railways network carried out in a big way during the last 10 years, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed Parliament on Friday.

The minister said that the measures for track upgradation include the use of 60 kg rails, wider base concrete sleepers, thick web switches, longer rail panels, H Beam sleepers, modern track renewal and maintenance machines,

The track length for the highest speed potential of 130 km per hour & above has been increased more than 4-fold from 5,036 km in 2014 to 23,010 km in 2025, which forms 21.8 per cent of the total track length. Earlier, this high-speed section was only 6.3 per cent of the total length, the minister said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.

South Korea, US to continue trade talks before Aug 1 deadline

South Korea and the United States will continue negotiations to reach a tariff deal before the hefty reciprocal duties take effect on Aug. 1, with key issues, such as investment and agricultural market access, currently on the negotiating table, the presidential office said on Friday.

Kim Yong-beom, presidential chief of staff for policy, made the remarks as Seoul seeks to reduce the proposed 25 percent tariffs on Korean goods by reaching a comprehensive package covering industrial cooperation, investment, procurement and security cooperation, reports news agency.

Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan and Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo held talks with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick in Washington on Thursday, and are scheduled to continue negotiations with him and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Friday (local time), according to Kim.

A woman teacher was duped out of Rs 12.80 lakh by cybercriminals in Rajasthan's Ajmer district.

The Ajmer Police have arrested one accused in connection with the case from Jaipur.

The victim, Gargi Das, an English teacher at the prestigious Mayo College Girls School, received a phone call on August 25, 2024, from a person claiming to be a Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) officer.

The caller threatened to disconnect her mobile number. Shortly afterwards, she received a WhatsApp video call from another individual posing as an officer of the Mumbai Crime Branch.

He falsely claimed that an FIR for money laundering had been filed against her in Canada. The fraudsters intimidated her by sharing forged legal documents and instructed her to maintain silence.

Indian stock market ends sharply lower amid overall heavy selling

The Indian stock market closed in the negative territory on Friday, with the domestic stock indices declining by up to a per cent amid selling pressure.

Sensex closed at 81,463.09, down 721.08 or 0.88 per cent. The 30-share index started the trade in negative territory at 82,066.76 against the previous session's closing of 82,184.17. The UK-India FTA failed to push a rally; instead, the index fell over 950 points to hit an intraday low at 81,397.69.

Nifty settled at 24,837.0, down 225.10 or 0.90 per cent.

"The broader market sentiment remained bearish throughout, with pronounced weakness evident across Media, Energy, Oil & Gas, PSU Bank, Auto, and IT sectors," said Ashika Institutional Equities in its note.

Overall, the market tone was convincingly risk-off, accentuated by sectoral headwinds and a break of pivotal index support levels, suggesting that caution may prevail in the near term, the note added.

Gujarat's 28 dams filled to capacity as monsoon rainfall reaches 55.26 pc of seasonal average

Gujarat has recorded 55.26 per cent of its average seasonal rainfall as of Friday, with the Kutch region leading at 64 per cent.

The two are followed by South Gujarat (59.11 per cent), North Gujarat (54.04 per cent), Saurashtra (54.02 per cent), and East-Central Gujarat (51.64 per cent), according to data released by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).

Due to widespread rainfall, 28 of the state's 206 dams have reached full capacity, while the Sardar Sarovar Dam -- considered the lifeline of Gujarat -- is currently at 59.42 per cent storage, holding 1,98,503 million cubic feet (MCFT) of water.

The remaining 206 reservoirs collectively store 3,40,817 MCFT, which amounts to 61.06 per cent of their total capacity.
