Tripura: Assam Rifles seize Meth tablets worth Rs 14 crore, one arrested

The Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with Customs officials, seized methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 14 crore and arrested a truck driver in Tripura’s Khowai district, officials said on Tuesday.

According to a defence spokesperson, the seizure took place late Monday night at Tuchandrai Bazar, where troops and Customs personnel intercepted a truck and, upon thorough inspection, recovered 1.4 lakh methamphetamine tablets. The contraband and the apprehended driver were handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and legal action.

An official statement said Assam Rifles, in coordination with other enforcement agencies, is committed to curbing illegal activities and maintaining peace and security in the region.

This is the second major drug seizure by the Assam Rifles in Tripura within a week.

Five people were killed and four others seriously injured in a car collision near Sikhwal Upvan on National Highway-11 in Sridungargarh, Bikaner.

Late Monday night, two cars collided head-on with such force that both vehicles were mangled.

The impact was so severe that some passengers were thrown out of the vehicles, and the police and locals who arrived at the scene found bodies strewn on the road.

Rescue teams had to cut through the cars to retrieve those trapped inside, and in one case, it took nearly an hour to extract a body.

According to reports, four people died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries on the way to Bikaner.

Among the deceased were Karan from Abhay Singh Pura, Dinesh Jakhar from Bigga, Madan Saran from Sridungargarh, and Manoj Jakhar from Bigga.

All four were returning from a pilgrimage to the Khatu Shyam temple.

Five officials of Kadapa Central Jail in Andhra Pradesh have been suspended after mobile phones were found in the possession of some remand prisoners.

Jailor Appa Rao, Deputy Superintendent Kamalakar, and three jail wardens have been suspended following the discovery of a major security breach.

Anjani Kumar, Director General, Prisons, issued orders suspending the Jail officials.

Ten mobile phones were found in the possession of notorious red sander smuggler Jakir, who was lodged in the Kadapa Central Jail, over four months. There have been allegations that the jail staff helped in providing phones to the prisoner.

The incident had raised serious concerns about the lapses in prison security.

Patna hospital murder case: Three arrested in Bihar's Bhojpur after encounter

In a major breakthrough in the Chandan Mishra murder case, a joint team of Bihar STF and Bhojpur police arrested three accused following an encounter in Bhojpur district on Tuesday.

The encounter took place around 5.45 a.m. near a river on the Bihiya-Kateya road under the Bihiya police station limits.

The police and STF, acting on intelligence inputs, surrounded the suspects linked to the Chandan Mishra murder case.

In response, the criminals opened fire, prompting retaliatory fire from the police.

Two of the criminals, Balwant Kumar (22, a resident of Liladharpur, Buxar) and Raviranjan Singh (20, from Chakrahi, Bhojpur), sustained bullet injuries during the exchange of fire.

Balwant suffered injuries to his hand and leg, while Raviranjan was shot in the thigh. The joint team has also seized two pistols, a country-made Katta, two magazines and some live cartridges. The entire area was cordoned off, and a heavy deployment of police was seen in the area.

One person was killed and nine others were injured on Monday in a landslide on the old track to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district.

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha said on X, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic landslide incident at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in which a devotee unfortunately lost his life. Directed Shrine Board to provide best possible medical care and support to the injured pilgrims. I'm constantly monitoring the situation.”

Officiating Chief Executive Officer of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, said that the landslide resulted in critical injuries to three persons and minor injuries to seven others. All the injured were taken to a hospital.

Officials said that a landslide struck the old track leading to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in the district this morning, injuring at least 10 pilgrims. All the injured were promptly shifted to the hospital, where one pilgrim succumbed. Other injured are being treated."

A bomb threat email sent on late Sunday night to the official ID of Maheshwari Girls Public School (MGPS), Vidyadhar Nagar, Jaipur, triggered panic and swift emergency response on Monday morning.

Police said that the email, received at 12.25 a.m., carried a chilling message: "The bomb is in our body. We will be martyred and attain heaven."

The threat was discovered when school authorities checked the mail around 9.15 a.m. and immediately informed the police.

In a prompt response, more than 3,500 students were safely evacuated from the school within half an hour. Police teams from multiple stations, along with the bomb disposal squad and dog squad, reached the campus and conducted a thorough search. No suspicious object or explosive material was found.

An electric line was passing through the top of the shed on which Mithun climbed on and while he slipped he came in contact with the live wire and dies instantly.

State Education Minister V. Sivankutty, on Monday, told the media that the statewide audit of school infrastructure will be held starting from July 25 to 31.

"On Tuesday, a high level meeting of officials in the Education department would be held when the guidelines for the audit would be discussed," Sivankutty said.

Gujarat Police raid liquor party near Ahmedabad; over 42 detained

A late-night police raid late last week at Glade One Resort near Sanand in Gujarat's Ahmedabad district exposed a high-profile liquor party allegedly organised as a birthday celebration for real estate businessman Pratik Sanghvi, police said on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, around 100 people were attending the party and Ahmedabad police detained around 42 people, who were under the influence of alcohol.

Among those caught were individuals from prominent localities and even out-of-state guests.

The list includes Jimit Jayeshbhai Sheth and Harsh Jayeshbhai Sheth, both from Sargasan, Gandhinagar; Bhavesh Ramanresh Kathiriya from Ramol, Ahmedabad; Pratik Suresh Jat from Nashik, Maharashtra; Kushal Kiritbhai Prajapati from Odhav village; Deep Chandrakantbhai Vadodariya from Nawavadi, Ahmedabad; Rajan Gopalbhai Soni from Navi Mumbai; Ronit Rajeshbhai Panchal from New Ranip; Noman Mukhtar Sheikh from Sarkhej; Jay Piyushbhai Vyas, also from Sargasan; Mahavirsingh Vikramsingh Solanki from Odhav; and Yash Dhanshyambhai Jat Sen from Bapunagar.

Police issued notices to 26 young women and released them, while the remaining attendees were taken in for medical testing.

IndiGo flight returns to Tirupati after circling in air for 40 minutes

An IndiGo flight bound for Hyderabad was forced to return to Tirupati after suffering a technical snag late last week, officials said on Monday.

The flight 6E 6591, which departed from Renigunta Airport at 7.42 p.m. on Sunday, circled in the air for about 40 minutes before returning.

The pilot noticed the snag midair and kept the aircraft circling before taking a U-turn.

The flight landed back safely at 8:34 p.m. on Sunday.

The aircraft, an Airbus A321neo, was scheduled to arrive at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday. Its scheduled departure time from Tirupati was 7:20 p.m.

After the flight's return, the airline announced its cancellation, leaving the passengers without transit for the night.
