Over 40 sheep and goats were killed on Tuesday in a lightning strike in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Officials said the animals were killed by lightning in the Hariganwan area of the Ganderbal district.

The livestock belonged to a nomadic ‘Bakarwal’ (Goatherd) community. “The Bakarwal has been identified as Abdul Wahid Khatana of Sunderbani in Rajouri district. He was grazing his flock in Chechi Pati in Hariganwan area,” said officials, adding that the lightning struck after a brief thunderstorm in the area.

Gusty high-speed winds have resulted in damage to private and public property in the Valley during the last three days.

Unusually high day temperature, shooting up to 32.6 degrees Celsius, has created low pressure zone over the Valley.

This results in high-speed wind blowing into the Valley to stabilise the pressure-temperature equation.

In a shocking incident, a woman allegedly threw her three-year-old daughter into a river near here.

The woman, Sandhya, picked up her child, Kalyani, from the local Anganwadi around 3.30 p.m.

When Sandhya returned alone, her mother Ally asked whereabouts of Kalyani.

Ally shared, "Sandhya told us Kalyani has gone."

Later, Sandhya told people that Kalyani had gone missing from the bus.

Soon, the police started searching for Kalyani, and while reviewing CCTV footage, they spotted Sandhya near the Chalakudy river.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a forecast warning of heavy rainfall in several districts of Tamil Nadu over the next few days.

According to the latest bulletin, isolated heavy showers are expected in the districts of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Erode, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri till May 22.

In its overall outlook, the RMC stated that light to moderate rainfall is likely at a few places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal during this period.

The forecast comes as parts of the state have already been experiencing intermittent pre-monsoon showers in recent days.

Assam Police have arrested three individuals for expressing a pro-Pakistan and anti-national stance regarding India's Operation Sindoor.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Monday in his post on X that three anti-nationals have been apprehended. The arrested individuals were identified as Rupsan Ali, Roshid Mondol alias Abdur Roshid, and Raju Sheikh.

Ali was arrested in Kokrajhar while Mondal and Sheikh were taken into custody from Goalpara and South Salmara, respectively.

CM Sarma further said in the post that the Assam Police were "strictly monitoring the digital space".

With these three arrests, a total of 71 people have been arrested in the state for their pro-Pakistan stand. Among the 71 arrested, the most prominent is the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam. He was the first person to be arrested in the state for the "pro-Pakistan" stand.

Heavy rains that lashed Bengaluru overnight led to severe waterlogging across several parts of the city on Monday, disrupting traffic and throwing normal life out of gear on the first working day of the week.

Key arterial roads, tech parks, and residential areas were inundated, with commuters facing long delays during peak hours. Among the worst-hit locations was Manyata Tech Park, prompting the Bengaluru Traffic Police to issue an advisory urging motorists to take alternative routes.

At least five people were killed in two separate road accidents in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Monday, officials said.

Three people were killed in an accident in Nandyal district of Andhra Pradesh, while two died in an accident in Telangana’s Mulugu district. A total of 18 people were injured in the two accidents.

A car overturned in the Nandyal district of Andhra Pradesh, killing three people and injuring three others. The accident occurred near Pododdi village in Peapully mandal.

The deceased have been identified as Santosh (47), Lokesh (37), and Naveen (37), all residents of Tumakuru in Karnataka.

The injured were admitted to a hospital in Nandyal. They belonged to the same family and were returning to Karnataka via Dhone after a darshan at Srisailam and Mahanandi temples.

A large number of local people in Manipur, family members and senior officials on Saturday bid a tearful farewell to CRPF officer Maharabam Prabo Singh, who was killed on May 15 in a lightning strike during an anti-Maoist operation in Jharkhand.

The mortal remains of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer Singh (46) arrived at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport on Saturday afternoon.

Manipur government’s Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, who is a former Director General of CRPF, along with senior officials, legislators and family members, paid tribute to the slain officer during a wreath-laying ceremony at the airport.

From the airport, the mortal remains were then taken to his home at Sekmai in Imphal West district, where the last rites of the braveheart were performed with full force honour.

Dust storms and strong winds swept across Delhi and adjoining NCR cities such as Noida and Ghaziabad on Saturday, marking the third consecutive day of turbulent weather in the region. The sudden and intense weather activity uprooted trees, damaged infrastructure, and disrupted traffic in several areas.

In Noida, heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds caused significant damage. Trees were uprooted in multiple sectors, with some falling on parked vehicles.

At Ashok Nagar station, the shed of the Rapid Rail Metro suffered structural damage. A traffic light pole also collapsed near DM Chowk during the storm.

Three individuals, including a man and his son, were feared dead after being swept away by a strong current of water in the Son river in Bihar's Rohtas district on Saturday.

The incident occurred at Navara Ghat when they went to the river to bathe after a funeral.

The victims have been identified as Nageshwar Sharma (65), his son Ranjan Sharma (20) Ritesh Sharma, son of Satendra Sharma, all residents of Kajipur village.

Confirming the incident, Rohtas SP Roushan Kumar said that they had come to Navara Ghat to attend the funeral of Uday Sharma's mother.

After the last rites, the three entered the river to bathe but were swept away by a strong water current.
