One killed after Metro viaduct falls on autorickshaw during transportation in Bengaluru

In a tragic incident, one person was killed after a viaduct being transported for the Namma Metro project fell on an autorickshaw in Bengaluru.

The incident occurred around Tuesday midnight at Kogilu Cross near Yelahanka. According to police, the viaduct, which was being transported for the Metro construction, fell from the truck and resulted in the death of the autorickshaw driver on the spot. The deceased has been identified as Kasim Saab.

The incident took place while Saab a resident of Hegde Nagar, was ferrying a passenger towards Nagawara. The passenger had a miraculous escape, police said.

The viaduct — a massive concrete structure — was being transported on an 18-wheeler truck for the airport Metro line. While taking a turn at Kogilu Cross, the truck's trailer detached from the cabin, splitting into two, causing the viaduct to fall onto the road, police said.

In three separate cases, Bengaluru Police arrested 10 persons, including a foreign national, for drug peddling in the city. Narcotic substances and other materials worth Rs 6.77 crore have also been seized from their possession.

The Anti-Narcotics team arrested one person from Kerala and seized 3.5 kilograms of hydroponic ganja, Rs 26 lakh in cash, and a mobile phone. The police stated that the total estimated value of the seized drugs and other materials is Rs 4.52 crore.

The accused, originally from Kerala, had procured the hydroponic ganja from there and was attempting to distribute it in Bengaluru.

Two workers from Telangana have been murdered by a Pakistani national in Dubai, said Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday.

Ashtapu Prem Sagar and Srinivas were attacked by a Pakistani national at Modern Bakery LLC in Dubai during working hours on April 11.

Bandi Sanjay posted on ‘X’ that he was deeply saddened by the tragic killings. “Spoke to Ministry of External Affairs officials today and our MHA office remains in constant touch with them,” he said.

The minister said that he spoke to Ashtapu Sandeep, brother of Prem Sagar, and assured full support as the family awaits the return of his mortal remains. Through the Indian Consulate, Dubai Police have been urged to expedite the process.

As many as 24 Bangladeshi infiltrators, including women and children, have been arrested from a village close to the coastal border with Bangladesh in the Sundarbans area of West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district during the last 24 hours, officials said on Tuesday.

Of the 24 infiltrators, 11 are women, nine are men, and the remaining four are children. They were arrested from a village located within the Chilmari forest in the Sundarbans area.

According to the Superintendent of Baruipur police district, Palash Chandra Dhali, a police team conducted a raid on the village, based on specific information from their sources of illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators hiding at the village within the Chilmari forest.

Manipur: Security forces recover arms & ammunition; nine held

In a series of joint operations, the security forces have recovered illegally held 77 arms, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), grenades, various ammunition and war-like stores, officials said on Tuesday.

The security forces also arrested nine militants of different outfits.

A Defence spokesperson said that the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, ITBP and Manipur Police during the past few days recovered the 77 arms, several IEDs, grenades, different types of ammunition and war-like stores from seven districts -- Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Imphal East, Kakching, Jiribam, Kangpokpi and Imphal West.

He said that the recovered arms include Carbines, Self-Loading Rifles (SLR), AK series rifles, AK series rifles, .303 Light Machine Guns (LMGs), Carbine Machine Guns, .303 Rifles, INSAS rifles, Snipers rifles, Double-barrelled Rifles, Single-barrelled Bolt Action Rifles and pistols.

A former employee of a cooperative society from Rajasthan was arrested by the cyber crime team of Delhi Police for duping 150 investors with a ponzi scheme offering 100 per cent profit on their investment, an official said on Tuesday.

Thirty-one-year-old Vinod Kumar, a resident of Purani Abadi, Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, was arrested and his two mobile phones, containing incriminating chats and YouTube promotional content related to the ponzi scheme, were seized.

A Delhi Police team arrested him from Sri Ganganagar after tracking his location using electronic surveillance.

Four children drown in water-filled pit in Jharkhand’s Garhwa, village in shock

In a heart-wrenching incident, four children drowned in a pit filled with water in Ursugi village of Jharkhand’s Garhwa district on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

All the victims were residents of the same village, Ursugi.

The deceased have been identified as Lucky Kumar, 8, son of Awadhesh Ram; Akshay Kumar, 12, son of Santosh Ram; Narayan Chandravanshi,16, son of Babulal Chandravanshi; and Hariom Chandravanshi,13.

According to locals, the children were playing near a 'dobha' (small pond) adjacent to the village. At some point, they entered a deep pit filled with water, possibly for bathing. Tragically, they were unable to come out and drowned.

By the time villagers were alerted and reached the spot, it was too late. The children were pulled out and rushed to Garhwa Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared all four dead.

The tragedy has plunged the village into mourning, with the families of the victims inconsolable.

Nine people were arrested for violence over the Waqf (Amendment) Act in West Bengal, Kolkata Police said on Tuesday.

Kolkata Police said the arrests were made in connection with violence at Bhangar in South 24 Parganas district on Monday.

The violence was carried out by All India Secular Front (AISF) activists after they were stopped from approaching Kolkata from Bhangar to participate in a rally protesting against the Waqf Act, the police said.

The police have registered five cases in connection with the matter.

An Army soldier was electrocuted to death when he climbed onto the top of a train in J&K's Sa.mba district, an official said on Tuesday.

The official said the incident occurred on Monday evening near Bari Brahmana railway station.

Official said that 24-year-old Ramchandra Choudhary of Rajasthan's Jodhpur was killed when he climbed to the top of a train.

Choudhary came into contact with a live wire and was electrocuted.

The incident occurred when Chaudhary, serving in a territorial Army battalion and posted in Srinagar, was going for his new posting in Sikandrabad of Uttar Pradesh.

Registration begins for Amarnath Yatra 2025, pilgrims queue up at 540 bank branches

Registration of Yatris for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra began on Tuesday, with pilgrims registering themselves online through the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) website. Offline registrations have also started at over 540 authorized bank branches across the country.

The dates for the yatra were announced by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on March 5 during the 48th Board meeting of the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB) held at Raj Bhawan in Jammu.

The board proposed various measures and interventions to further improve the facilities and services for the devotees.

The 38-day pilgrimage is set to begin from July 3, from two routes -- the 48-km Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the other 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district, which is shorter but steeper.
