Any time I bowl in England I'm reasonably confident, says Hazlewood ahead of WTC Final

Ahead of Australia facing South Africa in the World Test Championship final, fast-bowler Josh Hazlewood said he always feels reasonably confident while bowling in Tests in England and added that he will increase his pace in the run-up to the one-off clash starting at the Lord’s on June 11.

In 12 Tests in England, Hazlewood has picked 52 wickets at an average of 26.07. The fast bowler took five wickets in his most recent match at the Lord's, which happened during the 2023 Ashes series against England.

"Any time I bowl in England, I'm reasonably confident. I've had some good tours here over the last 10 years, and Lord's in particular. I haven't lost before at Lord's yet as a player, certainly in red-ball cricket for sure, and we have had a couple of good wins there over the years."

All-rounder Tryon wins ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for May 2025

South Africa all-rounder Chloe Tryon has been adjudged as the winner of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Player of the Month award for May 2025. Chloe beat out stiff competition from West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews and India batter Jemimah Rodrigues to secure the monthly award.

Though South Africa didn’t enter the final of the ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka, Chloe had a productive month. Though South Africa had a 23-run loss to eventual champions India, Chloe was in fine nick to hit 67 off 43 balls, comprising four boundaries and five sixes, apart from recording figures of 1-46 and taking the prized wicket of Smriti Mandhana.

But Chloe saved her best for last as she was at her dominant best for South Africa in their final tri-series game against hosts Sri Lanka. Batting first, Chloe smashed 74 off 51 deliveries, including four fours and five sixes, as South Africa posted a huge 315.

After scoring 169 runs in five ODIs as a middle-order batter, Waseem’s best came when the T20Is against Bangladesh began in Sharjah.

'I think it’s the right move': Ponting backs Gill’s elevation as Test captain

Australia legend Ricky Ponting has thrown his weight behind Shubman Gill as India’s new Test captain and outlined how he believes the side could shape up for their upcoming five-Test tour of England — their first without stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Both Kohli and Rohit, two of India’s modern greats, announced their retirements from Test cricket earlier this month, prompting a generational shift as India looks to the future. At just 25, Gill has been entrusted with the captaincy — a move that raised eyebrows among some pundits, but not Ponting.

Jannik Sinner is hoping Novak Djokovic isn’t calling time on his career just yet, saying “tennis needs him” after defeating the Serbian great in straight sets to reach the French Open 2025 final.

The Italian beat Djokovic 6-4, 7-5, 7-6(3) in a high-quality semifinal clash that lasted three hours and 16 minutes on Court Philippe-Chatrier, setting up a title showdown with Carlos Alcaraz.

“First of all, we hope that that’s not the case,” Sinner said in the post-match press conference. “I feel like tennis needs him. Having someone different than the younger guys… from my point of view, it’s so nice to see him in the locker room and having this energy of everything.”

'It's going to be a good challenge': Lyon warns against complacency ahead of WTC final

As Australia gear up to defend their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) title at Lord’s from June 11, veteran spinner Nathan Lyon has cautioned his team against underestimating South Africa’s powerful batting line-up.

While Australia enter the one-off final as favourites, Lyon is not taking anything for granted, especially given the Proteas’ red-hot form during the WTC cycle.

Speaking during Australia’s training session in Beckenham, Lyon acknowledged that while past experience in major finals could benefit his side, it won’t count for much once play begins.

"Having the experience of the guys who have won three (50-over) World Cups and T20 World Cups and obviously the World Test Championship final a couple of years ago, that experience and that pressure in those higher games, it's going to be, it's on our side isn't it but it doesn't mean anything when you come to the game," Lyon was quoted by ICC as saying.
