Italian Open: Sinner overcomes injured De Jong to advance in Rome

World No.1 Jannik Sinner continued his return from a doping ban with a comfortable straight-sets victory over Dutch lucky loser Jesper de Jong in the second round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia (Italian Open) in Rome.

The Italian who defeated Mariano Navone in his first match for more than three months on Saturday, backed that up on Monday with another stable display, beating Jesper de Jong 6-4, 6-2 on Monday night.

Playing in front of a vocal Italian crowd on Campo Centrale, Sinner let slip a break advantage in the first set but responded quickly to move ahead. The World No. 1 then moved through the gears in the second set against De Jong, who injured his right wrist when slipping at 1-3, 40/15 in the second set.

Football: Unexpected challenges for Klopp as Leipzig trapped in stormy waters

Football: Unexpected challenges for Klopp as Leipzig trapped in stormy waters

Even for a multitasker like Jurgen Klopp, juggling multiple responsibilities appears increasingly challenging. Four months into his role as Red Bull's "Head of Global Soccer," the 57-year-old former Liverpool manager has found himself acting as an emergency responder for the energy drink giant's flagship club: RB Leipzig. The two-time German Cup winner is enduring an uncharacteristically difficult season.

Klopp's broad portfolio leaves limited time to personally manage the range of football operations under the Red Bull umbrella. While he and former German international Mario Gomez were in attendance last weekend for FC Paris' promotion to Ligue 1, Leipzig was dealing with a growing crisis, reports.

In March, Klopp's associate Zsolt Low left his role as Head of Soccer Development to replace Marco Rose as Leipzig's interim head coach. However, despite the shuffle, the team failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in years.

End of an era: Virat Kohli announces retirement from Test cricket

Indian cricket stalwart and former captain Virat Kohli on Monday announced his retirement from Test cricket.

The decision came after it was reported that Kohli had communicated his decision to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ahead of next month's five-match Test series against England.

"It’s been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket. Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me on. It’s tested me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I’ll carry for life," Kohli wrote in his Instagram post.

"There’s something deeply personal about playing in whites. The quiet grind, the long days, the small moments that no one sees but that stay with you forever. As I step away from this format, it’s not easy — but it feels right. I’ve given it everything I had, and it’s given me back so much more than I could’ve hoped for.

Jaiswal wants to continue with Mumbai for next season, says MCA secretary Hadap

Just a month after Yashasvi Jaiswal made a surprising switch from Mumbai to Goa for the 2025/26 domestic season, the left-handed opener has mailed to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) about his intention to continue with the 42-time Ranji Trophy winning team.

Jaiswal had been granted a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) by the MCA in April, when he wrote to them about his intention to join Goa for the upcoming domestic season. But on Friday, it came to light that Jaiswal has sought a u-turn on his previous decision.

“I the undersigned would request your goodself to consider my request in withdrawing my NOC given to me as I had some family plans in shifting to Goa which for now has been curtailed. So I sincerely request MCA to allow me to play for Mumbai this season. I have not submitted the NOC to BCCI nor to Goa Cricket Association,” wrote Jaiswal in an email to MCA.

IPL 2025: Cool cat Dayal follows his process to reap rewards as a death bowler

IPL 2025: Cool cat Dayal follows his process to reap rewards as a death bowler

In the last couple of years. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) medium pacer Yash Dayal has emerged as one of the best death-over bowlers in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He earned this reputation by twice denying victory to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final over.

Dayal did that in the 2023 edition and repeated the act a couple of days back when he thwarted Chennai Super Kings and its legendary captain MS Dhoni to secure a two-run victory for RCB.

At the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 5, the nerveless Dayal played a key role in RCB's two-run win over CSK. The win helped RCB complete a double against CSK by winning both the home and away matches.

With 15 required off the final over, the equation tilted dramatically after Dayal bowled a high full toss that Shivam Dube launched for six, reducing the equation to six off three balls. But the 26-year-old stayed ice-cool, nailing three perfect yorkers to keep CSK down to just four runs. Dayal finished with figures of 2 for 36 as the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium erupted in deafening celebration.

IPL 2025: Toss in Punjab Kings-Delhi Capitals clash delayed due to rain in Dharamshala

IPL 2025: Toss in Punjab Kings-Delhi Capitals clash delayed due to rain in Dharamshala

The toss in the IPL 2025 clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) has been delayed due to rain at the HPCA Stadium on Thursday. A steady drizzle has taken over the venue, which has led to the playing square being firmly covered

The weather forecast for Thursday’s match had predicted dark clouds hovering around the venue, with chances of wind and mild drizzling set to happen. Even during Indian musician B Praak’s performance as a tribute to the Indian armed forces, there was slight drizzle and it was evident from the TV screens.

PBKS, currently at third place with 15 points, come into Match 58 of the tournament on the back of two successive wins, including a win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their first home game of IPL 2025 in Dharamsala. DC, on the other hand, earned one point from their washed-out game in Hyderabad and are in the fifth spot with 13 points.

IPL 2025: BCCI confirms Sunday's PBKS-MI clash shifted to Ahmedabad from Dharamshala

IPL 2025: BCCI confirms Sunday's PBKS-MI clash shifted to Ahmedabad from Dharamshala

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, scheduled to be held on May 11, has been shifted to Ahmedabad from Dharamshala.

As per this, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the clash on Sunday afternoon, instead of the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, which is the second home venue of PBKS.

"The venue change has been necessitated due to logistical challenges. The match will begin at 3:30 PM IST as per the original schedule," added the BCCI in its statement on Thursday.

The BCCI’s decision to shift the game to Ahmedabad, the home venue of Gujarat Titans’ (GT), comes after Dharamshala is amongst various cities in North India whose airports are closed till May 10, after the launch of ‘Operation Sindoor’ by the Indian armed forces on May 7, which targeted nine terrorist sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
