Virat Kohli overtakes Shikhar Dhawan to become India's leading run-scorer in Champions Trophy history

Senior batter Virat Kohli added another feather to his highly illustrious cap as he became India's leading run-scorer in the ICC Champions Trophy history during the semi-final clash against Australia at Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday.

Kohli surpassed former India opener Shikhar Dhawan's tally of 701 runs in 10 games from 2013 to 2017. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is the third-highest scorer for India in the tournament with 665 runs in 13 matches from 1998 to 2004.

The 36-year-old reached the milestone during India's chase of 265. Kohli achieved the feat in his 17th Champions Trophy match for India. He also completed his 74th ODI half-century in the match and surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's record of most fifty-plus scores in ICC ODI tournaments. Kohli now has 24 fifty-plus scores in 58 innings while the legendary batter had 23 such scores in 58 innings in ICC ODI events.

Champions Trophy: New Zealand, South Africa square up in bid to erase past heartbreaks

Champions Trophy: New Zealand, South Africa square up in bid to erase past heartbreaks

Two of world cricket’s most consistent yet luckless teams, South Africa and New Zealand, are set to face off in the second semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy at the Gaddafi Stadium. Both sides, known for their heartbreaks in major tournaments, now stand on the cusp of another shot at glory.

New Zealand has often had the upper hand in ICC knockout clashes, most memorably eliminating South Africa in the 2011 and 2015 World Cups. While those scars may have faded over time, the Proteas still carry the weight of an elusive global title. New Zealand, on the other hand, have come agonisingly close in recent years, including the controversial 2019 World Cup final. With both teams evenly matched, this encounter promises another enthralling chapter in their long-standing rivalry.

Champions Trophy: We need to start well and play sensibly in first 10 overs, says Jadeja

After returning with the figures of 2-40 in his eight overs against Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy semifinal, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja feels batting well in the first power-play will set the foundation for a 265-run chase at Dubai International Stadium. The Indian bowlers kept it tight and bundled out Australia for 264 in 49.3 overs despite half-centuries from captain Steve Smith (73) and Alex Carey (61). For India, Mohammed Shami returned with figures of 3-48 while Varun Chakaravarthy and Jadeja bagged two scalps each.

Speaking at the mid-innings break, Jadeja said the wicket is better than their last game against New Zealand, and tackling the opening 10 overs will be crucial to book the final berth. "The wicket is better than the last game, not much spin. We need to start well. If we play sensible cricket in the first 10 overs, then there won't be any issues," he said.

Mohammed Shami clinched three dismissals while Ravindra Jadeja and Varun Chakaravarthy bagged two scalps each to bowl out Australia for 264 in 49.3 overs in the ICC Champions Trophy semi-final clash at Dubai International Stadium here on Tuesday.

Despite half-centuries from captain Steve Smith and Alex Carey, disciplined bowling from India restricted the ODI world champions from reaching the 300-run mark.

The first powerplay saw movement from both Indian pacers Shami and Hardik Pandya as India got an early chance to celebrate in the match but Shami dropped Travis Head on duck on the second ball of the innings.

Shami, in his second over, bagged Cooper Connolly on a nine-ball duck to draw first blood. A thin outside edge off Connolly's bat was caught by KL Rahul behind the stumps.

Champions Trophy: It’s better for NZ batters if ball doesn’t spin much, says Santner ahead of Proteas clash

Champions Trophy: It’s better for NZ batters if ball doesn’t spin much, says Santner ahead of Proteas clash

After the New Zealand batters collapsed against a potent Indian spin attack in their previous match, skipper Mitchell Santner has acknowledged the difficulties his side faced in the clash. But he still believes the conditions at the Gaddafi Stadium for their clash with South Africa will not assist spinners as the slower track in Dubai did.

The second semifinal of the 2025 Champions Trophy will be an interesting clash, with both teams eyeing their first victory in a limited-overs ICC tournament. The Proteas enter the game with two wins and one no result, whereas New Zealand finished as the runner-up in Group A with convincing victories against Pakistan and Bangladesh.

With quality spinners like Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi awaiting the Kiwi batters, Santner addressed the challenge that awaits his side.

Indian Wells draw: Alcaraz, Djokovic could meet in blockbuster quarterfinal

Two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz could play five-time tournament winner Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Open as the draw for ATP 1000 event was made on Tuesday (IST).

The two superstars last met in a blockbuster quarter-final at the Australian Open, which was won by Djokovic in four sets. Both men will have to be ready to roll early in the event with tricky draws.

Alcaraz will begin his title defence against Frenchman Quentin Halys or a qualifier. The Spaniard has never played Halys. The first seeded opponent the 21-year-old could battle is in-form 27th seed Denis Shapovalov, who claimed his maiden ATP 500 crown in Dallas.

Djokovic could take on Nick Kyrgios in the second round. The Australian, who played Djokovic in the 2022 Wimbledon final, will open against a qualifier.

Champions Trophy: Ponting backs Fraser-McGurk as Australia's opener in semifinal against India

Champions Trophy: Ponting backs Fraser-McGurk as Australia's opener in semifinal against India

Former skipper Ricky Ponting backed youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk to replace injured Matt Short at the top of Australia’s batting order for their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final clash against India on Tuesday.

Short was ruled out due to an injury to his left quadriceps which he sustained during Australia's washed out Group B game against Afghanistan. His absence promotes travelling reserve Cooper Connolly into the squad.

Connolly is a powerful hitter and also a capable off-spin bowler, proving to be a like-for-like replacement but Ponting is putting his faith in Fraser-McGurk, who has so far made seven appearances for Australia in ODIs, hitting at a strike-rate of 132l, averaging just 14 runs with a top score of 41.
