Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Organises a Five-Day Faculty Development Programme on Innovation, Technology, and Holistic Development

The Department of Education, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, organised a five-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Innovation, Technology, and Holistic Development: The Future of Higher Education” under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell. The programme brought together eminent academicians and experts from leading universities to equip faculty members with cutting-edge pedagogical tools and foster collaborative learning. In his welcome address, Prof. Sukhwinder Singh Billing highlighted the success of the FDP in enhancing the competencies of educators and emphasized the University’s commitment to promoting innovation and inclusivity in higher education. Dr. Harneet Billing, Head of the Department of Education and Convener of the Programme, outlined the objectives of the FDP, which focused on modern teaching strategies, technological integration, and holistic student development. She shared that Prof. Kuldip Puri (Professor, CDOE Panjab University) in his session spoke on evolving trends in higher education, followed by an interactive brainstorming session on innovative teaching strategies led by Prof. Renu Malaviya (Professor in Education, Lady Irwin College, Delhi University) and set the tone for the programme. On the second day Prof. Vandana Saxena (Professor in Education CIET, Delhi University) explored philosophical and creative linkages in pedagogy, and Prof. Raj K. Gupta (Professor in Education Panjab University) discussed inclusivity in special education. The participants reflected on their evolution of teacher identity in the afternoon session. The third day explored the rise of Artificial Intelligence in Education when Prof. (Dr.) Akashdeep Sharma (Professor, Department of CSE, UIET Panjab University Chandigarh) and Dr. Parqat Singh Garcha (Principal, GHG College of Education Gurusar Sudhar) examined the role of artificial intelligence in education, followed by a hands-on AI tools session by Dr. Tanvir Singh. On the antipenultimate day Dr. Jeesu Jaskanwar Singh (CDOE, Panjab University) and Prof. Jasvir Kaur Chahal (SGGSWU) demonstrated the use of ICT and LMS applications in teaching. The concluding day explored holistic development and Well-being where in Prof. Jayanti Dutta (Director HRDC Panjab University) and Dr. Inderpreet Sandhu (Department of Psychology, Punjabi University) emphasized the significance of educator roles in student well-being and mindfulness.
The valedictory address was delivered by Prof. B.S. Ghuman, former Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala. Prof. Ghuman elaborated on the 5E Framework—Expansion, Equity, Excellence, Employability, and Ethics—as pillars for transforming higher education. He underscored the need for curriculum modernization, industry-academia collaboration, and student-centric approaches to ensure holistic development and future readiness. Prof. (Dr.) Pritpal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, in his concluding remarks, commended the enthusiasm of the participants and the insightful contributions of the resource persons. He reiterated the University’s vision to harmonize tradition with innovation, ensuring that educators are well-equipped to meet future challenges in the evolving educational landscape. The FDP concluded on a promising note, reinforcing the resolve to embrace innovation, inclusivity, and holistic approaches in higher education.
