Desh Bhagat Dental College and Hospital is celebrating World No Tobacco Day 2025 with a fortnight of activities from May 20 to June 5, in accordance with the National Resource Centre for Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation and the Dental Council of India. Various events such as awareness lectures and campaigns, oral screenings, camps, tobacco cessation counselling, poster-making competitions, and other outreach initiatives are being conducted during this period. An Anti-Tobacco Rally was also organized and flagged off by Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor and Dr. Virender Singh, Advisor to the Chancellor. Faculty members, undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and interns actively participated in the rally, raising slogans against tobacco use to spread awareness in the community. To further commemorate the occasion, an awareness lecture was delivered by Principal Dr. Vikram Bali, aimed at educating the general public and students about the harmful effects of tobacco in all its forms. He discussed its negative impact on individual health, the broader community, and social life, and suggested strategies to reduce its use. The lecture also emphasized the importance of resisting peer pressure and highlighted everyone’s responsibility to quit smoking and encourage others to do the same. On this occasion, Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor, inspired the students and stressed the importance of spreading awareness about the dangers of tobacco consumption. He stated, "Tobacco consumption is a major cause of preventable deaths worldwide. We must educate people about its harmful effects and promote healthier lifestyles." He also emphasized the significant role educational institutions play in this effort, adding, "As a responsible educational institution, it is our duty to spread awareness about the ill effects of tobacco and motivate students to lead a healthy life." World No Tobacco Day provides a platform for young people worldwide to call on governments to protect them from predatory marketing tactics used by the tobacco industry. The industry often targets youth to ensure a lifetime of profits, thereby fostering a new wave of addiction. The anti-tobacco celebrations at Desh Bhagat Dental College and Hospital were a great success. Local residents joined the awareness rally and appreciated the efforts of the participants. They also interacted with the students to learn more about the dangers of tobacco use. The slogans used during the rally helped educate the public and inspired many to quit the habit. This event marked a significant step in promoting healthy living and left a lasting impact on the local community.
