The World Environment Day Celebrations at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University

The University School of Law of Sri Guru Granth Granth World University, Fatehgarh Sahib celebrated the World Environment Day on June 5 in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, Fatehgarh Sahib.
The Chief Guest of the event  Ashok Kumar Chauhan, CJM cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Fatehgarh Sahib addressed the students at DLSA and joined the University authorities in Plantation drive at the University campus. While highlighting the importance of the day, he expressed that this year the World Environment Day aims to raise global awareness about the harmful impacts of plastic waste on ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. Plastic pollution has become a planetary crisis, with microplastics found in the deepest oceans, remote mountain peaks, and even inside the human body. He also discussed the historical perspective of the day with the students. Prof. (Dr.) Amita Kaushal, Head and Dean, University School of Law expressed that ridding the planet of plastic pollution is an important contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, including those on climate action, sustainable production and consumption, protection of seas and oceans and repairing ecosystems and retaining biodiversity. Prof.(Dr.) Prit Pal Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University applauded the efforts of the department and actively participated in the plantation drive. He expressed that while climate reports and scientific warnings continue to grow urgent, World Environment Day serves as a powerful reminder that every small action counts. Prof.(Dr.) Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs also appreciated the department for organising events that promotes global awareness of environmental issues. Dr. Navneet Kaur, In-charge of Legal Aid Clinic and ECA expressed her gratitude to the guests on behalf of department. She shared that the event aimed to encourage young minds to lead the charge toward a greener planet. The students actively participated in various activities organized including the lecture delivered by Sh. Ashok Kumar Chauhan, quiz and poster making competition and tree planting.
