The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised questions over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement claiming that no compromise would be made on the interests of Indian farmers during the trade deal with the US. The party has termed the statement misleading for the farmers of the country.
Senior AAP Punjab spokesperson Neel Garg said that the Bharatiya Janata Party must clarify the context in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi made this statement about farmers. He asked whether the statement is about not entering a trade deal with the US or merely a reaction to the comments made by US President Donald Trump.
Neel Garg stated that Prime Minister Modi often speaks about working for the welfare of farmers, but he has failed to fulfil even a single promise made to them. He said that despite promising to double farmers' income, this has not been achieved. Modi had also assured farmers that he would provide a legal guarantee for MSP when repealing the black farm laws, but no such law has been enacted to date. He further pointed out that the Prime Minister also spoke about waiving off farmers' loans, but that promise too remains unfulfilled. “In such a scenario, how can we trust that he truly wants the welfare of farmers?” asked Garg.
