Alia Bhatt: Behind every uniform is a mother who hasn't slept

Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt expressed gratitude and respect for the sacrifices of Indian soldiers and their families, especially mothers who raised them.

Alia shared a note. It read: “The last few nights have felt... different. There's a certain stillness in the air when a nation holds its breath. And over the past few days we've felt that stillness. That quiet anxiety.

“That pulse of tension that hums beneath every conversation, behind every news notification, around every dinner table.”

Alia spotlighted the stark contrast between our safety and the constant danger faced by soldiers protecting us.

“We have felt the weight of knowing that somewhere, out there in the mountains, our soldiers are awake, alert, and in danger. While most of us are tucked into our homes, there are men and women standing in the dark, guarding our sleep with theirs. With their lives. And that reality... it does something to you. Because you realise this isn't just bravery.”

New wearable smart sensors to protect babies from overexposure to painkillers

New wearable smart sensors to protect babies from overexposure to painkillers

US researchers have developed a wearable and "smart" lactation sensor to prevent babies from overexposure to the common painkiller acetaminophen.

Acetaminophen, commonly used for postpartum pain management, is also frequently given to babies to treat fever, leading to potential double-dosing through both direct administration and indirectly through breastfeeding.

The drug is the leading cause of acute liver failure in children and the most frequent reason for liver transplants in the US.

The acetaminophen sensor, developed by researchers at the University of Southern California in the US gets incorporated into an ordinary nursing pad and detects acetaminophen in breast milk.

For nursing babies with immature liver metabolism, the presence of acetaminophen in breast milk poses additional risks, said the team in the paper described in the scientific journal Device.

Indian rupee opens stronger against US dollar

The Indian rupee opened 75 paise stronger at 84.65 against the US dollar on Tuesday, following its previous close at 85.38 a dollar.

The trading range for the day was expected to be between 84.50 and 85.25, according to analysts. The dollar maintained its gains following a significant trade pact between the US and China.

The US will reduce tariffs on Chinese goods from 145 per cent to 30 per cent for 90 days, while China said it will cut tariffs on US goods from 125 per cent to 10 per cent for 90 days. The two countries will establish a mechanism to continue discussions about economic and trade relations.

According to analysts, any fresh developments on the geopolitical front are likely to have a significant impact on the rupee’s direction.

In FY25, rupee traded in the range of 83.10 and 87.6 against the greenback, initially weakening after the US election results and depreciating by 2.4 per cent over the year due to persistent FPI outflows and a strong US dollar.

Football: Unexpected challenges for Klopp as Leipzig trapped in stormy waters

Football: Unexpected challenges for Klopp as Leipzig trapped in stormy waters

Even for a multitasker like Jurgen Klopp, juggling multiple responsibilities appears increasingly challenging. Four months into his role as Red Bull's "Head of Global Soccer," the 57-year-old former Liverpool manager has found himself acting as an emergency responder for the energy drink giant's flagship club: RB Leipzig. The two-time German Cup winner is enduring an uncharacteristically difficult season.

Klopp's broad portfolio leaves limited time to personally manage the range of football operations under the Red Bull umbrella. While he and former German international Mario Gomez were in attendance last weekend for FC Paris' promotion to Ligue 1, Leipzig was dealing with a growing crisis, reports.

In March, Klopp's associate Zsolt Low left his role as Head of Soccer Development to replace Marco Rose as Leipzig's interim head coach. However, despite the shuffle, the team failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in years.

Pankaj Tripathi: Hindi films are rarely shot in Bihar

Acclaimed actor Pankaj Tripathi shared that life has come full circle for him, as he is shooting a social human drama film in his home state for the first time in over two decades in Hindi cinema. He also said that Hindi films are rarely shot in Bihar, making this experience even more special.

Pankaj shared: "It’s hard to put into words what this moment means to me. I began my journey as a performer on the dusty streets of a small village in Bihar, doing theatre and ‘nukkad nataks’, never imagining that one day I would return to these very lanes with a film crew.”

“After spending over two decades in Hindi cinema, this is the first time I am shooting a film in my home state, and it feels like life has come full circle. Hindi films are rarely shot in Bihar — the last I remember was Manoj Bajpayee’s ‘Shool’ in 2003 — so this experience is incredibly special and long overdue."

Scientists find molecule that blocks brain cell death in Parkinson's, Alzheimer's

A team of Australian scientists has identified a small molecule that blocks cell death, an advance that could lead to new treatments for neurodegenerative conditions like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

The team from the Melbourne-based Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI) aimed to find new chemicals that block cell death, which could help treat degenerative diseases in the future.

The findings offer hope for treatments that could slow or stop the progression of neurodegenerative diseases.

After screening over 100,000 chemical compounds, the team found a small molecule that targets a killer protein called BAX.
