Telangana: Irrigation Department's former Engineer-in-Chief arrested in DA case

Telangana's Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested former Engineer-in-Chief of the Irrigation Department, C. Muralidhar Rao, in a disproportionate assets case.

The arrest followed searches at 10 locations in Hyderabad, Karimnagar, and Zaheerabad on Tuesday.

The anti-graft agency conducted raids on the premises of Rao, his family members and relatives.

Rao had served as Engineer-in-Chief for a decade during the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) rule. He was asked to resign in February 2024, following the Vigilance Department investigation into the sinking of piers at the Medigadda barrage, a part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.

Rao retired in 2013 in undivided Andhra Pradesh but got multiple extensions. His arrest by the ACB comes amid the ongoing investigation into the alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project.

Boland would have played so many Tests if he was in another team: Starc

While all the spotlight was on Mitchell Starc’s 100th Test match and 400th wicket in the format, Scott Boland stole the show towards the end of the third Test against West Indies at Kingston with a hattrick to round up the lower order and dismiss the hosts for 27, the second-lowest Test total ever.

Starc scripted history in the third Test against the West Indies in Jamaica as he claimed a five-wicket haul in just 15 balls, the quickest in Test history,

Boland has only worn the baggy green on 14 occasions but has claimed 62 scalps to his name. Starc believes his partner would definitely have played many more Test matches had he been from a different team.

Commercial development anchors deal value in India in April-June: Report

Commercial development anchors deal value in India in April-June: Report

Commercial development continued to anchor deal value in India in the April-June period this year, accounting for 62 per cent of total investment, as institutional capital targeted resilient, income-generating assets, according to a report on Tuesday.

The quarter saw 17 transactions worth $1.3 billion (including IPOs and QIPs), with 13 deals valued at $775 million excluding public market activity.

“With SM REIT momentum building and India’s largest-ever REIT issue expected in H2, the sector enters the second half of the year with cautious optimism and an institutional focus, said the report by Grant Thornton Bharat.

The January-June (H1 2025) reflects a sector recalibrating for long-term strength in the real estate sector in the country.

“While overall deal values moderated, institutional capital continues to flow steadily into commercial platforms, reinforcing the asset class’s resilience. The return of IPO and SME REIT activity, alongside anticipation of India’s largest REIT, signals that capital markets are gearing up to play a larger role in driving real estate growth,” explained Shabala Shinde, Partner and Real Estate Industry Leader, Grant Thornton Bharat.

Kejriwal slams Gujarat govt over lathi charge on protesting livestock farmers in Sabarkantha

Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday criticised the Gujarat government for the lathi charge and use of tear gas on livestock farmers protesting outside the Sabar Dairy facility in Sabarkantha district.

The farmers protested on Monday, demanding a fair share in the dairy’s profits and a hike in milk procurement prices.

Kejriwal condemned the use of force against the demonstrators, calling it an act of "brutality".

Taking to X, he posted, "The BJP government has crossed all limits of brutality by ordering a lathi charge and tear gas on the livestock farmers peacefully protesting outside Gujarat's Sabar Dairy. Demanding a share in the dairy's profits is not a crime."

He also paid tribute to a dairy farmer who died while going home after the protest concluded.

Tier-2 and tier-3 non-metro cities attracting more jobs, talent in India: Report

Job market momentum and economic opportunity are growing in non-metro cities in India, according to a new report on Tuesday.

The Cities on the Rise report, by professional network platform LinkedIn, identifies Visakhapatnam, Ranchi, Vijayawada, Nashik, and Raipur as the fastest-growing non-metro hubs where professional opportunities are accelerating.

The report also highlights emerging tier-2 and tier-3 growth pockets – Rajkot, Agra, Madurai, Vadodara, and Jodhpur -- for professionals looking to relocate, tap into new industries, or grow their careers locally.

It attributed the success of these emerging cities to central and state government’s push for local development.

“Tier-2 and tier-3 cities are at the heart of India’s economic transformation. The influx of GCC investments, the local MSME boom, and the government’s vision of a Viksit Bharat are collectively turning smaller cities into serious career hubs,” said Nirajita Banerjee, LinkedIn Career Expert and India Senior Managing Editor.
