A retired banker from Visakhapatnam was among 16 tourists killed in the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.

J. Chandramouli, a resident of Pandurangapuram in the coastal city, was on a trip with family members.

According to reports reaching here, Chanramouli tried to flee, but the terrorists chased and shot him dead.

He also reportedly pleaded with the assailants not to kill him, but they showed no mercy. Chandramouli died on the spot. His body was identified three hours after the incident.

On receipt of information, his relatives left for Pahalgam.

Madhusudan Somisetty, a native of the Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh and resident of Bengaluru, was also killed in the terror attack.

All trade, travel, industry, transport and educational institutions remained shut in the entire Valley on Wednesday after political, religious, social and professional organisations condemned the brutal killing of innocent people by terrorists in Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam on Tuesday afternoon.

Horrifying details are now emerging about the beastly behaviour of the killers.

Eyewitnesses said the terrorists separated the men from the women and children.

Indian Army foils infiltration bid in Uri LoC; ops underway

Alert troops of the Indian Army on Wednesday foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) Uri sector.

A Defence Ministry statement said that an exchange of gunfire took place between the terrorists and the Army when an infiltration bid was foiled after terrorists were engaged by the Army in a firefight near the Uri Nala area of Baramulla district.

Army’s Srinagar headquartered 15 corps said on X, “On 23 Apr 2025, approximately 2-3 UI terrorists tried to infiltrate through general area Sarjeevan at Uri Nala, Baramulla, the alert troops on LC challenged and intercepted them resulting in a firefight. Operation is in progress”.

Wednesday’s infiltration bid on the LoC comes a day after Pakistan sponsored terrorists killed 16 innocent civilians including 2 foreigners and 2 locals.

A tourist was killed and at least 12 other persons, including tourists & locals, were injured in a terror attack in Pahalgam hill station in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district on Tuesday amid booming tourism in the Valley.

The tourist was killed, and other tourists and locals were injured, when terrorists attacked a group of tourists in the Baisran area of Pahalgam hill station.

As per reports, 2 to 3 terrorists wearing army fatigues came and fired at horse-riding tourists in the Baisran area around 2.30 p.m. Baisran is a small meadow 3 to 4 km from the Pahalgam market, and tourists take horses to reach the place as there is no motorable road to it.

"One tourist was killed in this attack, and several others, including tourists and locals, were injured. The injured have been shifted to Pahalgam hospital, from where those with critical injuries were shifted to Srinagar for specialised treatment," an official said, adding that the area has been cordoned off by the security forces to trace the assailants.

Three bookies from Madhya Pradesh involved in betting on a T-20 IPL cricket match were arrested in Goa’s Calangute along with digital equipment and phones worth Rs 1.10 lakh, an official said on Tuesday.

The three accused, who were accepting bets online on the match between Kolkata Night Riders and Gujarat Titans on Monday, were identified as Ankit Rathore (34) from Bhopal; Badal (32) from Sagar; and Ajay (32) from Sagar, the police said.

Calangute Police registered a case against three individuals following a raid past midnight on Monday.

The raid was conducted between 12:35 a.m. and 2:45 a.m. at Flat No. 203, Arsh’s Nest, Saldana Kayle Garden, Baga Calangute Bardez Goa, the police said.

During the operation, the police seized a laptop and seven mobile phone worth Rs 1.10 lakh, said an official.

The J&K Police said on Tuesday that an accused being brought to Jammu from Punjab died while trying to escape from police custody.

The incident took place on Monday when the police were bringing two wanted criminals from Punjab to Jammu and Kashmir.

A police statement said, “Yesterday one police party of Jammu police was sent to Baba Batala, Amritsar, Punjab, to round up two wanted persons with the help of Punjab Police and the police party accordingly arrested Mustaq Ali alias Raj Ali alias Bacchu Don, son of Mohammad Sadiq, resident of Kikri Morh, Baribrahama and one more accused wanted in the case. Both are wanted in a number of criminal cases in the JKS range."

While presenting the sequence of events, the statement mentions, "The police party along with the said accused, was returning from Amritsar towards Jammu, when the accused insisted to halt the vehicle to answer nature’s call and when they were brought down from the vehicle, the accused suddenly attacked the police personnel and tried to snatch their weapons and escape from the police custody. However, the police party handled the situation, but one accused, namely Mushtaq Ali alias Bacchu Don, while trying to escape, fell on the road and got grievously injured."

At least eight members of a family were killed and six others injured in a road accident in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the Nohata police station area around 10:15 a.m. when the driver of a vehicle carrying 15 passengers lost control of it near the Sunar River bridge near Simri village and fell off the bridge onto a dry riverbed.

According to police officials, the vehicle occupants were residents of Jabalpur district.

Among the deceased were five sisters from the same family, along with a niece and a grandson.

A trainee pilot was killed when a small aircraft belonging to a private aviation training institute crashed in a residential area in Gujarat's Amreli district on Tuesday.

The deceased, identified as Aniket Mahajan, was on a solo training flight at the time of the accident.

Eyewitnesses reported that the aircraft suddenly nosedived and crashed into the ground, triggering a loud explosion upon impact. The blast caused panic and fear among residents living nearby, many of whom rushed out of their homes in alarm.

Thick smoke billowed from the wreckage as flames engulfed the crash site. Emergency teams from the fire brigade and local police quickly reached the scene and began rescue operations. Despite their efforts, Mahajan could not be saved.

The West Bengal government’s initial “outsider” theory behind the communal violence in the minority-dominated Murshidabad district has been nullified to a great extent by the identities of the four arrested individuals in connection with the killing of a man and his son on April 12.

It has been revealed that all four arrested individuals were not only residents of Murshidabad district but also used to frequent the village where the slain father and son, Hargobindo Das and Chandan Das, lived.

At the same time, the villagers have also confirmed that three of the four arrested were residents of villages adjacent to the village of the slain father and son.

The state police first arrested two cousins in this connection, namely Kalu Nadab and Dildar Nadab, both residents of a village adjacent to the one where the Das duo used to reside. Villages have confirmed to the investigating officials that both these accused cousins used to frequent the resident village of the Das family to meet their acquaintances there.

At least six people, including a two-year-old child, were killed in a tragic road accident on the Bhopal-Jabalpur highway on Monday.

The incident occurred near ‘Bamhori Dhaba’ under Sultanpur police jurisdiction in Raisen district when a sports utility vehicle (SUV) carrying nine occupants collided with a culvert between 6.30 and 7.00 a.m.

According to the police, six individuals died instantly at the spot, while three others sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at the Raisen district hospital.

The victims were reportedly returning from Patna, Bihar, after attending a wedding ceremony of two of the occupants of the vehicle, who received severe injuries.
