Terrorist killed in joint operation in J&K's Kishtwar district

A terrorist was killed in a joint operation launched against terrorists in J&K's Kishtwar district on Friday, officials said.

The terrorist was killed in the joint operation by the army and the other security forces launched on April 9 in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar.

"The operation was based on specific intelligence inputs, which led to a firefight with terrorists, resulting in one terrorist neutralised. The search operation, conducted by the Army and police, aimed to flush out terrorists hiding in the dense forests, continues," an official said.

Another operation is going on in the Joffar forest area in the jurisdiction of Ramnagar police station in Udhampur district.

The property of some drug peddlers and terrorists worth Rs 4.67 crore has been attached in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag and Ganderbal districts, said police on Friday.

The amount has been estimated after action was taken in the last two days.

An official statement said, “Continuing its relentless drive against drug trafficking and in strict adherence to the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Anantnag Police have attached properties valued at approximately Rs 1.2 crore belonging to drug peddlers in multiple cases across the district. In one significant action carried out under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, Anantnag Police attached a single-storey residential house along with one kanal of land at Sallar, Anantnag."

In a shocking incident in Trilokwa village under Kesaria police station limits in the East Champaran district of Bihar, a youth and a girl were found brutally murdered inside a room late Thursday night, officials said on Friday.

The deceased have been identified as Vikas Kumar Paswan and Priya Kumari.

According to SDPO Satyendra Kumar Singh of Chakia range, the police have arrested one Aman Kumar Shah, who is believed to be the prime suspect and Priya Kumari’s brother.

“The accused allegedly attacked the victims with a hammer, inflicting fatal injuries to their heads,” Singh said.

Gujarat expands drone manufacturing, training in 19 ITIs

Gujarat is set to expand drone pilot training across 19 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state. This initiative, anchored by the government-run institute Kaushalya - The Skill University (KSU), positions the state at the forefront of India’s emerging drone education and manufacturing ecosystem.

As of now, the university’s School of Drones has trained 504 individuals and issued them official pilot licences. Additionally, over 100 drones have been indigenously developed and assembled at the institute.

State officials confirmed that two ITIs -- Bilimora and Mandvi -- have already secured DGCA recognition to operate as RPTOs. The remaining 17 centres are in the pipeline as part of a broader state-supported rollout under the direction of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Labour and Employment Minister Balvantsinh Rajput.

The expansion is not just limited to pilot training. The School of Drones has developed a unique educational model known as "Drone Mantra", which integrates advanced training in drone manufacturing, programming, and operations using state-of-the-art machinery and simulation labs.

Four people, including three women of a family, were killed in a road accident following a collision between a goods vehicle and a Road Transport Corporation bus on Friday in Yadgir district, Karnataka.

The accident occurred on the national highway near Muddaraki in Shahapur taluk, killing 30-year-old Sharanappa, 19-year-old Sunitha, 50-year-old Somavva, and 55-year-old Tangamma, all residents of Varkanahalli near Yadgir.

According to the police, the victims were travelling to visit the Bhagyavanthi Temple in Ghattaragi near Kalaburagi.

Three of them died on the spot, while one succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

Other passengers in the goods vehicle sustained injuries and have been admitted to the local hospital.

Chennai Police move to ban Grindr App over links to drug peddling network

Chennai Police Commissioner A. Arun has initiated action to suspend or ban Grindr, a popular dating and social networking app for the LGBTQ+ community, after a probe revealed its alleged use as a communication channel in synthetic drug trafficking cases.

The Commissioner has written to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), the country’s nodal agency for cybersecurity incidents, requesting regulatory intervention against the global platform.

“In five out of ten recent drug cases, Grindr was found to be the medium through which traffickers communicated with clients,” a senior police officer stated.

Joint Commissioner of Police (East) P. Vijayakumar emphasised the Greater Chennai Police’s commitment to eradicating narcotics, particularly synthetic drugs.

He noted that the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU), formed in August 2024, has made significant progress in this direction.

Aiming at enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against illegal mining, state authorities conducted 314 operations over the period from April 2 to April 8, targeting illegal mining, mineral transportation, and storage and seized 152 vehicles and machinery, an official said.

The official further added that more than 24,461 tonnes of illegally stored minerals were confiscated across the state.

“Additionally, 43 FIRs were registered and 26 arrests were made, underscoring the state’s commitment to cracking down on these unlawful activities,” the official said.

Meanwhile, Principal Secretary of the Mines Department, T. Ravikant, said that the rigorous enforcement actions are in strict accordance with the government’s policy to combat illegal mining.

Additional Director Vigilance, PR Ameta, has been designated as the nodal officer at the headquarters level to ensure streamlined efforts across all regions.

Doctors at Jharkhand's Dhanbad Medical College hold strike after colleague assaulted

Medical services at the government-run Shaheed Nirmal Mahato Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH) in Jharkhand's Dhanbad were severely hit for over eight hours on Thursday as doctors went on a strike after a senior resident doctor was assaulted by relatives of a deceased patient, officials said.

In protest against the assault, doctors at the hospital went on strike from 2 a.m., leading to a complete shutdown of emergency services in the hospital.

According to the hospital, the incident occurred late Wednesday night when a young girl, admitted to the paediatric department following a snake bite, died during treatment.

The girl’s family, blaming medical negligence, created a commotion and physically assaulted the senior resident on duty.
