Delhi: AAP decides to oppose Education Bill in Assembly

The Opposition Aam Aadmi Party on Monday announced its decision to oppose the education bill on school fee fixation, with Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Atishi assailing the government for delaying its tabling in the House by four months.

Addressing reporters ahead of the start of the Assembly’s Monsoon Session, Atishi alleged that the delay in tabling the bill is a ploy to give private institutions a free hand to fleece parents in the current academic year.

Atishi demanded that until the Delhi School Education Bill 2025 is finalised, it should be referred to a select committee of the Assembly for fixing its contours after collecting feedback from parents.

The former Chief Minister said, “Till the time the bill is finalised, all private schools should be directed not to raise fees and collect them at the same rate as 2024-25.”

Atishi also demanded that a clause for regular audit of school accounts should be included in it.

Haryana rights panel comes to rescue of senior citizen for denying basic entitlements

The Haryana Human Rights Commission has taken serious note of a complaint submitted by senior citizen Amar Singh Murwala, a resident of Panipat district, and has raised concerns regarding administrative functioning and denial of basic entitlements.

The complaint before the commission highlighted three key issues: Arbitrary deactivation of Parivar Pehchan Patra; denial of housing assistance under government schemes; and inhuman and unsanitary living conditions in an old-age home.

The complainant, a verified beneficiary under the Antyodaya category, had reported that his Parivar Pehchan Patra was deactivated without any prior notice, enquiry, or opportunity to be heard.

As a result, he was deprived of multiple welfare schemes, including Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Old-Age Pension.

Murwala, who is landless, homeless, and socio-economically disadvantaged, had also alleged that despite fulfilling eligibility criteria, he was not allotted any accommodation or assistance under either the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) or Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana (MMAY).

India’s Mutual Fund industry grows 7 times in decade, passive funds gains ground: Report

The total Assets Under Management (AUM) of the Indian Mutual Fund (MF) industry stand at Rs 74.40 lakh crore, marking more than a sevenfold growth over the past decade, a report said on Monday.

Of the total AUM, equity commands the largest share at 59.94 per cent, followed by debt at 26.53 per cent, hybrid at 8.28 per cent, and other categories accounting for 5.26 per cent, according to Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund.

According to the report, a key development in the industry has been the steady rise of passive investing, which now accounts for approximately 17 per cent of total AUM.

While active funds continue to dominate in absolute terms, the increasing share of passive strategies reflects broader adoption of low-cost, transparent, and benchmark-aligned approaches, the report stated.

In the quarter ending June 2025, total estimated net inflows stood at Rs 3.98 lakh crore.

Ahmedabad RTO cracks down: Over Rs 10 cr in fines, 2,161 licenses suspended

Ahmedabad Regional Transport Office (RTO) has suspended over 2,161 driving licenses and collected fines amounting to Rs 10.98 crore over the past 16 months in response to a surge in reckless and illegal driving practices across the city.

With roads turning dangerous due to overspeeding, wrong-side driving, and blatant disregard for traffic laws, the RTO’s action signals a tougher stance on road safety.

From April 2024 to July 2025, the department initiated stringent action against a wide range of violations -- wrong-side driving, overspeeding, overloaded vehicles, expired fitness certificates, and even fatal accidents, as per data issued.

Notably, the Ahmedabad RTO also cancelled the licenses of 284 drivers who were caught driving dangerously in other states but held licenses issued in Ahmedabad.
