Multiple sclerosis may emerge a decade before neurological symptoms begin to appear

Multiple sclerosis may emerge a decade before neurological symptoms begin to appear

Multiple sclerosis may begin far earlier than previously thought. Canadian researchers have decoded that the earliest warning signs of the immune system disorder may emerge more than a decade before the first classical neurological symptoms occur.

The findings, published in JAMA Network Open, challenge long-held assumptions about when the disease truly begins, offering the most comprehensive picture to date of how patients engage with a range of health care providers in the years leading up to a diagnosis as they search for answers to ill-defined medical challenges.

"MS can be difficult to recognise as many of the earliest signs -- like fatigue, headache, pain and mental health concerns -- can be quite general and easily mistaken for other conditions," said senior author Dr. Helen Tremlett, Professor of neurology at the University of British Columbia.

"Our findings dramatically shift the timeline for when these early warning signs are thought to begin, potentially opening the door to opportunities for earlier detection and intervention," she added.

Randeep Hooda on why every role feels like his first

Actor-filmmaker Randeep Hooda says acting is never easy as it always carries fear and uncertainty and added that each role is like starting from scratch.

Talking about if acting is ever easy for him or does every role still bring a level of fear and uncertainty, Randeep told: “If you're not uncertain and you're not feeling like, oh my God, this time, I personally, this time they're going to discover that I don't know anything about acting. That is what keeps me on my toes and I really believe that.

“It's always as if I'm doing my first job.”

Asked what he believes is more powerful – what the actor says or what the actor doesn't say, Randeep told: “Whatever you say are just your thoughts. And most of us try to hide our thoughts or don't completely say what we mean.”

Study finds inflammatory pathways behind asthma attacks in children

Study finds inflammatory pathways behind asthma attacks in children

Scientists have found inflammatory pathways that contribute to asthma flare-ups in children that occur despite treatment.

Eosinophilic asthma is characterised by high levels of eosinophils -- a type of white blood cell involved in the body's immune response. While eosinophils typically help fight infections, in eosinophilic asthma, they accumulate in the lungs and airways, causing chronic inflammation, swelling, and damage to the respiratory system.

Eosinophilic asthma is driven by type 2 (T2) inflammation -- an immune response involving cytokines that promote the production and activation of eosinophils.

Because of this, therapies targeting T2 inflammation are used to reduce eosinophil levels and prevent asthma flare-ups.

Trump orders nuke subs to 'appropriate' points after Medvedev's 'provocative' statement

US President Donald Trump ordered two nuclear submarines to "appropriate" points to confront Russia as the war of words between him and former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev continues to escalate, spilling over from the digital domain to the real world.

Reacting to Mededev's post on Telegram, Trump said on Truth Social, "Based on the highly provocative statements of the Former President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, who is now the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that."

He added, "Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences. I hope this will not be one of those instances."

Trump did not say which submarines were being deployed or where.

Fritz, Shelton move into fourth round of Canadian Open

Fritz, Shelton move into fourth round of Canadian Open

Second seed Taylor Fritz ousted the last remaining Canadian Gabriel Diallo 6-4, 6-2 to reach the fourth round of the Canadian Open.

Eyeing his second ATP Masters 1000 crown and first since his dream run at Indian Wells in 2022, Fritz will next face 19th seed Jiri Lehecka, the Czech who rallied past 15th seed Arthur Fils 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to advance.

Fritz broke to start the match and never really gave Diallo a chance to get back in it. The American was squeaky clean throughout, seemingly finding a way to come out on top on every big point. Once he broke to go up 3-1, the result began to feel inevitable and he added a second break late before serving out the match.

Elsewhere, fourth seed Ben Shelton registered a 6-7(8), 6-2, 7-6(5) win to improve to 5-0 in their ATP head-to-head series against Brandon Nakashima.
