11 injured in Jammu and Kashmir road accident

Eleven people were injured on Wednesday in a road accident in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district.

Officials said that a load carrier went out of the driver's control at the CISF checkpost in the Jyotipuram area of Reasi district.

"After the driver of the load carrier lost control of the wheel, the vehicle dropped into a gorge, injuring 11 persons. The vehicle dropped down nearly 50 feet from the road. The injured were shifted to the Reasi district hospital. Doctors at the hospital said the condition of the injured is being monitored. Police have registered a case," the officials said.

Overloading, speeding, and road rage are the main reasons for road accidents in Jammu and Kashmir, especially the hilly districts of Jammu region, including Doda, Poonch, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Ramban and Reasi.

The Traffic Department has deployed special squads in the hilly areas to ensure that the safety rules are not violated by drivers in these areas.

Most of the accidents occur due to speeding by the transport vehicles, the officials said.

India saw an 8.8 per cent rise in high-net-worth individual (HNWI) wealth in 2024, witnessing 378,810 millionaires with a total wealth of $1.5 trillion by the end of last year, according to a report released on Wednesday.

India also had 333,340 millionaires 'next door' at the end of 2024, with a wealth of $628.93 billion, according to the Capgemini Research Institute’s 'World Wealth Report 2025'.

Moreover, India had 4,290 ultra HNWIs at the end of 2024, with a combined wealth of $534.77 billion.

While 85 per cent of the Indian next-gen HNWIs plan to switch from parents’ WM (Wealth Management) firm within 1-2 years, as compared to 81 per cent of the surveyed global next-gen HNWIs, 51 per cent of them cite services unavailable on their preferred channels as a reason to switch WM firms.

In the aftermath of the devastating landslide in North Sikkim, the Indian Army is working relentlessly under extreme weather and hazardous terrain conditions to assist residents and stranded tourists, officials said on Wednesday.

A senior official said that Lachen village, the main hub for tourism in the region, has been completely cut off. The Army has established foot connectivity to the village and reached out to 113 stranded tourists, who will be evacuated soon.

“On Tuesday, 30 tourists, including some foreign nationals, were successfully airlifted by military helicopters,” he added.

Search operations have continued with urgency to locate the six individuals still missing after the landslide struck a military camp at Chaten. The missing include Lieutenant Colonel Pritpal Singh Sandhu, Subedar Dharamveer, Naik Sunilal Muchahary, Sepoy Sainudheen P.K., Squadron Leader Aarti Sandhu (Retd), wife of Lieutenant Colonel Sandhu, and their daughter, Miss Amayra Sandhu.

South Korea: Lee declines resignation offers from Cabinet members except Justice Minister

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on Wednesday turned down resignation offers from Cabinet members except for Justice Minister Park Sung-jae to ensure continuity in state affairs, the presidential office said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Lee Ju-ho, who had served as acting President, conveyed the Cabinet's collective intention to resign during a phone call with the new President on his first day in office. However, President Lee accepted only Park's resignation.

"President Lee decided to decline the resignation offers by Cabinet members except for Minister Park, stressing the continuity in state affairs," presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung told a briefing.

Lee took office one day after his election without a transition period following an election called early to pick a successor to former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was ousted over his failed martial law bid in December, news agency reported.

Jharkhand bandh over tribal religious sites hits normal life, roads blocked across state

A state-wide bandh called by tribal organisations over issues related to traditional religious sites had a major impact across Jharkhand on Wednesday, bringing normal life to a standstill in several districts of the state.

A medical aspirant reportedly took his own life upon realising that his exam marks were insufficient to secure admission. The tragic incident occurred in the Maharajpura police station area of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

The 18-year-old student, preparing for the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) exam, was found dead after using his father’s licensed firearm, police said on Wednesday.

“He had been awaiting the release of the exam’s answer key, and when it became available around 7 p.m., his father asked him about his marks. The student appeared visibly distressed and withdrawn. When his father did not receive an answer, he went downstairs to check the results himself. In the meantime, the student entered his father's room and shot himself with the licensed revolver. His father, a retired serviceman, later identified the student as Nikhil Pratap Singh,” said Dharmendra Yadav, investigation officer.

After six new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, the number of Covid-19 patients has risen to 30 in Patna since May 23, according to the latest report released by the Bihar Health Department.

The new cases include a 19-year-old male, a 21-year-old female, and three senior citizens aged 55, 66, and 73 years.

Currently, 24 patients are active, while six have recovered and been discharged. Of the total, 16 cases were confirmed by government labs (AIIMS, NMCH, IGIMS), while the remaining 14 came from private labs, raising concerns about the silent spread of the virus.

Some doctors, nurses, and medical students at prominent hospitals like Patna AIIMS, NMCH, and IGIMS are among those infected, raising concerns. Experts have warned that this could hamper hospital preparedness if adequate precautions are not maintained.

Registration of companies and LLPs surges in May amid strong GDP growth

Due to strong GDP growth and policy continuity, registration of companies and limited liability partnerships (LLPs) in the country surged by up to 37 per cent in May.

According to latest government data, registration of companies increased by 29 per cent and LLPs by 37 per cent on year-on-year basis in May.

Data released by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs said that 20,720 companies, including overseas units, were registered in May, up from 16,081 in the same period a year ago.

This was the fifth consecutive month when registration of companies has gone up.

About 7,487 LLPs were registered in May. Last year, the number was 5,464.
