Rescuers resume operation in Himachal Pradesh to trace 34 people

Rescuers on Wednesday resumed the search operation in Himachal Pradesh on the second day to trace 34 people, who went missing after cloudbursts and heavy rain triggered massive landslides and flash floods.

Sixteen cloudbursts and three flash floods on Tuesday in Mandi district washed away one bridge, 24 houses and one hydropower project, resulting in 10 deaths so far.

The death toll could rise as the survival of the missing people after more than 24 hours of disaster is getting dim.

The maximum damage was reported in the Mandi district.

In total, three people from Chamba district, 51 from Hamirpur district, and 316 from Mandi district have been rescued so far.

The state's Meteorological Department has predicted that heavy to very heavy rain is likely to continue across the state till July 7.

Two Chinese nationals charged in US with spying on naval bases, plotting to recruit spies

Two Chinese nationals have been charged in the US with engaging in espionage activities on behalf of China, including photographing a naval base, coordinating a clandestine cash drop, and attempting to recruit members of the US military, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said on Wednesday (Indian time).

The federal case, filed in San Francisco and unsealed on Monday (US time), is the latest in a series of prosecutions aimed at curbing what American officials describe as the Chinese government's relentless efforts to gather intelligence on US military operations.

The allegations echo a broader trend, which gained international attention two years ago when a Chinese surveillance balloon was shot down over the coast of South Carolina.

"This case underscores the Chinese government's sustained and aggressive effort to infiltrate our military and undermine our national security from within," said Attorney General Pam Bondi in a statement.

Club WC: Dortmund beat Monterrey to earn last-eight date with Real Madrid

Two clinical first half strikes from Serhou Guirassy helped Borussia Dortmund ease past a determined Monterrey outfit to book a quarter-final showdown with Real Madrid.

The German giants will face Real Madrid CF in the quarter-finals on July 5 at MetLife Stadium in New York New Jersey.

The match began with heavy challenges by both teams as they signalled their intent for a physical encounter. Dortmund used their attacking firepower to take control.

The German side carried a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to the duo of Karim Adeyemi and Serhou Guirassy. Adeyemi played provider both times, the first goal being the result of some clever combination play at the top of the Monterrey penalty area.

In the 14th minute, Guirassy passed to Adeyemi, whose return ball into space allowed the striker to easily slot his strike inside the left post for a 1-0 lead.

Shukla last week scripted history by becoming the first Indian to reach the International Space Station (ISS), aboard the Axiom Space's mission -4

He along with three others from the US, Poland, and Hungary and seven members of the Expedition 73 led the muscle and brain research.
