Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Hosts Seminar on Millets

The Department of Agriculture at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, organized a One-Day National Seminar on “Millets: Nature’s Functional Superfood in collaboration with Kheti Virasat Mission (KVM). The seminar aimed to promote awareness about the nutritional, environmental and economic benefits of millets, often referred to as “smart foods” due to their climate resilience and health benefits. The event was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Prit Pal Singh, who emphasized the importance of reviving traditional crops like millets in the context of climate change and food security. Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Sukhwinder Singh Billing addressed the gathering, highlighting need of the sustainable agriculture in Punjab. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Ruchika Bhardwaj, Millet Breeder from the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, PAU Ludhiana, who shared in-depth insights into recent advancements in millet breeding and the role of millets in ensuring nutritional security. Other notable participants included Dietician Kamal Bajwa from Patiala who discussed the nutritional advantages of incorporating millets in daily diets and Sardar Gurmukh Singh, popularly known as the “Kodra Farmer” of Batala who shared his personal journey of millet cultivation and sustainable farming practices.

ED raids Bengaluru dog breeder who claimed to own Rs 50-crore canine

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday raided the residence of dog breeder S. Satish, who claimed to own a Rs 50 crore canine, in Bengaluru.

Sources said that the ED registered a complaint against Satish in this regard and continued the search and seizure operation.

The search operation was conducted at his residence in J. P. Nagar.

However, during the raids, it was found that Satish's claims of purchasing the rare dog breed were false. The officers are getting details of his transactions, income tax and GST details.

The ED is yet to make an official statement on the matter.

Indian telescopes shed light on elusive ‘middleweight’ black holes

Astrophysicists from Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES), an autonomous institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), have successfully detected and measured the properties of an intermedia black hole (IMBH).

IMBH which has remained elusive is found in a faint galaxy called NGC 4395 about 4.3 million light-years away from Earth.

Using the 3.6m Devasthal Optical Telescope (DOT) -- India's largest optical telescope --, the team found that gas clouds orbit the black hole at a distance of 125 light-minutes (around 2.25 billion kilometre) with a velocity dispersion of 545 km per second.

One dead, 12 infected in Legionnaires' disease outbreak in Sydney

A person has died and 12 others have been infected after contracting Legionnaires' disease in an outbreak linked to central Sydney, the Department of Health in the Australian state of New South Wales said on Thursday.

There are now 12 confirmed cases of Legionnaires' disease in people who spent time in central Sydney between March 13 and April 5, up from the six cases that had been diagnosed as of April 10, the department said.

It said that one of the confirmed cases died in the hospital. Of the 12 reported cases, 11 have been hospitalised for treatment.

Infosys’ Q4 profit dips 11.7 pc to Rs 7,033 crore; announces Rs 22 final dividend

Infosys, one of India’s top IT companies, on Thursday reported a 11.7 per cent year-on-year (YoY) drop in its consolidated net profit for the fourth quarter of the financial year 2024-25 (Q4 FY25) to Rs 7,033 crore, compared to Rs 7,969 crore in the same quarter last year.

However, Infosys' revenue rose by nearly 8 per cent YoY to Rs 40,925 crore as compared to Rs 37,923 crore in a year-ago period.

The company reported an operating margin of 21 per cent, slightly lower than the 21.3 percent margin in the previous quarter but up from 20.1 percent in the same quarter a year ago.

Infosys also announced a final dividend of Rs 22 per equity share for FY25. The record date for dividend payment and the Annual General Meeting (AGM) has been set as May 30. The dividend will be paid on June 30.

“The company's board of directors decided on the dividend payout and fix the record date along with the results. Recommended a final dividend of Rs 22 per equity share for the financial year ended March 31,” the company said in its exchange filing.

The 29-year-old Ghai (64-67-62), who won his only title on the PGTI in 2018, took his total to 17-under 193 after his penultimate round that helped him gain three spots from his overnight tied fourth place.

Delhi’s Honey Baisoya (67), Ludhiana’s Pukhraj Singh Gill (68) and Chandigarh’s Yuvraj Sandhu (69), were all tied for second place with matching totals of 13-under 197.

Ghai, who was the first-round leader before he slipped three shots behind the lead in round two, was in terrific form with the putter on a day when everyone else struggled with the short putts. He made single putts on his first eight holes where he sank three birdies and came up with a few outstanding par-saves.

Fitch projects India's GDP growth at 6.4 pc for FY26, retains 6.3 pc for FY27

Fitch Ratings on Thursday projected India's GDP growth at 6.4 per cent for FY26 amid global uncertainties, while retaining the projections for the next financial year (FY27) unchanged at 6.3 per cent.

For India, the global ratings agency reduced GDP growth estimates for both the 2024-25 fiscal year and the current 2025-26 fiscal year by 10 basis points to 6.2 per cent and 6.4 per cent, respectively, amid fears of a global trade war.

The growth forecast for the 2026-27 fiscal year remains at 6.3 per cent, according to Fitch.
